Draft: Lilias Fraser references

[edit]

I had to resort to the wikipedia entry for the Australian Directors Guild Cecil Holmes Award -- I could not find the listing of the award going to Lilias Fraser that is in wikipedia anywhere else.

I am concerned that some of the information I have cited is only available in an oral history recording/transcript from the National Film & Sound Archive. Nevertheless, I have been at great pains to confirm this material. For example, the director Ken Russell is mentioned in the oral history and I was able to confirm the connection online in a round-about way but to my complete satisfaction. I am a historian of Australian cinema and know the deceptions -- that's the only word for it -- that are published as fact in so much that is written about film (both people and events) so there can be no one more skeptical of the claims of filmmakers than I am. Indeed, there are a several claims about Lilias Fraser that have been published online that I am sure are not true. However in this case, I absolutely stand by what is in the draft article.

I have tried to give Fraser's life just a bit of context without being able to give the references -- for example, I know about industrial documentaries and commercials being central to the survival of Australian film producers in the 50s and 60s through my research for my book The Shadowcatchers -- but none of the sources are online. (They ARE in magazines and catalogues in the Mitchell Library and formerly in my own now disbanded collection.)

I don't know what you do in this case....

I was asked by colleagues to write this entry -- and I couldn't say no. If it has to be cut, so be it. Martha1 (talk) 11:28, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
