I'm getting discouraged and I was surprised
[edit]A reviewer said "You should refund any money your client paid you because the article is TOTALLY unacceptable for Wikipedia." I must admit, I was taken aback, it was the first email I was reading for the day...
A tiny history.
My client is the entrepreneur behind the global franchise of Saint Cinnamon shoppes/stores and his story is worth telling. He is also a poet and songwriter. Any references about him are related to Saint Cinnamon so I retold his story that way. His book is soon to be on Amazon and his songs are being uploaded to Tunecore. I realize the purpose of an article is not for publicity. My client thought his accomplishments were worthy of note as did I, so that's why I wrote his article.
I submitted my first draft on Dec 22 and it was declined on Dec 23. There were comments about citations which I understand and will fix. One of the reviewers kindly explained to me that I need to write backward, using references then telling the story. So I rewrote the draft, thinking I was doing that. As far as the citations go, many of the international newspapers are not archived. I have emails from a few of the papers telling me that there is no electronic copy and I was using a photocopy of the article from my client's personal library. I also thought it would be appropriate to include photos, as I've seen many articles with photos but I was told not to include them.
If there is something different I need to do, please help me understand. CLWwrites (talk) 16:23, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- Do you seriously think that content like “With its wafting aroma, Saint Cinnamon quickly became a big hit with Canadians.“ “The rolls were baked in full view of the customers and the sweet scent lured you in” is suitable for an encyclopaedia? Theroadislong (talk) 16:40, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- Perhaps you've never given positive feedback before, this isn't helpful. Of course I can rewrite it CLWwrites (talk) 16:59, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- There is absolutely nothing positive any reviewer could say about your draft it is NOT written in an acceptable tone for Wikipedia,if you are being paid to edit, the onus is on you to research how to do this, start with reading WP:YFA. Theroadislong (talk) 17:09, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- I will continue to edit. It seems you're upset that I'm being paid to write an article for a business owner who wants his story told. I will create another draft. CLWwrites (talk) 17:11, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- We don't tell business owners stories here. Theroadislong (talk) 17:26, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- I have seen many on Wikipedia. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction to research this more fully. I will do another draft CLWwrites (talk) 17:28, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
