You Should Be Dancing is an upcoming American biographical musical drama film, based on the lives of the members of the Bee Gees. It is directed by Ridley Scott and written by John Logan.

Production

[edit]

It was announced in October 2019 that Paramount Pictures had begun development on a biopic of the band, which would be produced by Graham King.[1] Steven Spielberg was added as an executive producer the next day after learning of the film being announced at Paramount, as it was previously in development through DreamWorks Pictures. His company Amblin Partners will finance 25% of the film.[2] In March 2021, Kenneth Branagh was hired to direct with Ben Elton writing the script and Barry Gibb attached as an executive producer.[3] Branagh would exit the project due to scheduling conflicts with the awards campaign for his film Belfast in late 2021, with John Carney hired to replace him in March 2022. John Logan was set to rewrite the screenplay.[4] Carney would exit in December, with Lorene Scafaria replacing him.[5] Scafaria would ultimately exit the project as well by February 2024, with Ridley Scott entering negotiations to direct.[6] In August 2024, the title was revealed as You Should Be Dancing, with principal photography scheduled to begin in early 2025, and Scott confirmed to direct.[7]

Release

[edit]

On April 9, 2021, the film was slated for release on November 4, 2022.[8] As a result of Branagh's exit as director, the film was removed from the release schedule in March 2022.[4]
