The York Region Athletic Association (YRAA) is an organization for high school student-athletes, teacher-coaches, student-coaches, teachers, principals, and sport administrators in Ontario, Canada. It is a member of the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations and generally covers York Region.

Background

[edit]

Approximately 50,000 students and 3,000 teacher-coaches participate in York Region school sports. Every individual who is involved in school sports is a member of YRAA. The association's primary responsibility is to work with volunteer teacher-coaches to provide regional championships for York Region's student-athletes, and also deal with issues that affect students, coaches, schools and communities, such as drug-free sports, equity, fair play, and safe schools.

Unlike other regional high school athletics associations in the province, as well as the country, the YRAA is not an affiliate member of the United States-based National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), which operates most high school sports and activities in the United States.
