Early Life
[edit]Vidhu Ayyanna (born Ayyanna Raj on July 23, 1989) is an Indian cinematographer and filmmaker hailing from Gingee, Tamil Nadu. He gained recognition in the film industry for his notable work in the Tamil cinema. Ayyanna was born to Shettu and Banu Priya and grew up alongside his elder brother, Vidyanand.
Ayyanna completed his schooling in Gingee and Chennai before pursuing a degree in B.Sc Visual Communication at AM Jain College in Chennai. His passion for cinematography led him to begin his career as an assistant to renowned Director of Photography (DOP), S.D. Vijay Milton, on the film "Vazhakku En 18/9." He further honed his skills by assisting and associating with DOP K.M.Bhaskaran on two other films. Worked with P.S Vinod for couple of schedules in a bilingual movie.
Career
[edit]His talent and dedication soon caught the attention of the digital media platform Put Chutney and Noise and Grains, where Ayyanna began working on musical and promotional videos. Through his work on YouTube, he gained recognition and was offered his first major film opportunity by Stone Bench Productions. In 2017, he collaborated with director Rathna Kumar on the Tamil film "Meyaadha Maan," which was well-received by both audiences and critics.
Ayyanna's success continued with his involvement in RJ. Balaji's film "LKG" (2019) and "Oh My Kadavule" (2020). In 2021, he worked on the film "Mandela" and the Hotstar series "November Stories." He also expanded his reach to Telugu cinema with "Ori Devuda" in 2022 and "Nitham Oru Vaanam" in the same year.
In 2023, the movie "Maaveeran," directed by Madonne Ashwin and featuring Shiva Karthikeyan in the lead role, was completed. This marks their second collaboration with the director. The film presents a complex script, posing a challenge for cinematographers to vividly portray the fantasy character on screen.
In addition to his work in the film industry, Ayyanna has also directed several advertisements, showcasing his versatility as a visual storyteller.
Vidhu Ayyanna's dedication to his craft and his ability to capture captivating visuals have established him as a prominent cinematographer in the Indian film industry. His passion for storytelling and commitment to his work continue to inspire both aspiring and established filmmakers.
