Thomas "Tom" Fewer is an American author, business researcher, and political strategist. He currently is an Assistant Professor of Strategy, International Business, and Entrepreneurship at Rutgers University's School of Business–Camden[1] and Vice President at NobleReach Foundation.[2]
Academic and Professional Career
[edit]Fewer received his PhD in Business Administration with a specialization in Strategic Management from Drexel University's LeBow College of Business in 2021. After graduating, he joined Georgetown University's McDonough School of Business as a postdoctoral fellow working with Prof. Gerry George.[3] The two then went on to write the bestselling book, Venture Meets Mission: Aligning People, Purpose, and Profit to Innovate and Transform Society, with Arun Gupta.
In 2023, Fewer decided to leave Georgetown to co-found NobleReach Foundation alongside CEO Arun Gupta.[4] This decision, which he later went on to write about in an essay,[5] was motivated by his belief that business schools had become too antithetical from the public sector. In fall 2024, he returned to academia as an Assistant Professor at Rutgers.
Research Activity and Awards
[edit]Fewer's research explores questions at the nexus of business, ethics, politics, and government.[6] His work has been featured in top academic and professional publications like Journal of Management,[7] Journal of Management Studies,[8] Stanford Social Innovation Review,[9] BigThink,[10] and Fast Company.[11] In 2024, Fewer published an article on CEO political partisanship and corporate misconduct in Academy of Management Journal, finding that politically extreme CEOs are more prone to wrongdoing than moderates.[12] He frequently publishes independent pieces on business and politics.[13]
Fewer has been acknowledged for his academic research and instruction. His paper on the Boeing 737-MAX accidents received the 2021 Responsible Research Paper Award by the Academy of Management[14] and his paper with Gerry George on business and the common good received the 2024 Best Business Ethics Paper Award.[15] Fewer received Georgetown's Entrepreneurship Faculty Excellence Award[16] and was named as one of Drexel University's 40-under-40.[17]
In January 2024, Fewer became a national bestselling author when Venture Meets Mission debuted as the 11th top-selling book on USA TODAY's Best-selling Booklist[18] and number 11 on Publishers Weekly Hardcover Nonfiction Bestseller Booklist.[19]
