The Odyssey is an upcoming epic action adventure film written, produced and directed by Christopher Nolan. It will follow the journey of Odysseus towards home after the Trojan War. Based on Homer's Ancient Greek epic poem of the same name, the film will dramatize on Odysseus' encounters with Polyphemus, the Sirens and Circe and his reunion with his wife, Penelope. It will star Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, and Charlize Theron.
In October 2024, Nolan was revealed to be developing his next film with casting announcements following the next few months. The film was revealed in December 2024 to be an adaptation of Homer's poem. Filming will take place from early 2025.
The Odyssey is scheduled to be released in the United States on July 17, 2026 by Universal Pictures.

[edit]Development
[edit]In October 2024, director Christopher Nolan was revealed to be developing his next film at Universal Pictures, after working with that studio on Oppenheimer (2023). Nolan was once again writing the script and producing the film with his wife Emma Thomas via their production company Syncopy Inc. Matt Damon was in talks to star in the film, after collaborating with Nolan on Oppenheimer and Interstellar (2014).[2][3] Unlike Oppenheimer, which Universal acquired in an auction, this film was directly set up at that studio. The Hollywood Reporter debunked speculation that the film would adapt the British spy television series The Prisoner (1967–68), which Nolan previously considered in 2009.[3][4] Later that month, Tom Holland joined the cast, with Damon confirmed to star.[5] In November, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, and Charlize Theron joined the cast in undisclosed roles.[6][7][8][9] In December, Universal revealed Nolan's new film as The Odyssey based on the ancient Greek poems by Homer.[10][11][12]
Filming
[edit]Principal photography is scheduled to begin in early 2025.[2] The film will be partially shot using new IMAX film technology.[13][14]
Release
[edit]The Odyssey is scheduled to be released in the United States in IMAX on July 17, 2026.[2]
