George Ian Lucero, better known as Taipan Lucero, is a Filipino calligrapher, designer, and cultural advocate, known for founding CalligraFilipino, an initiative that integrates pre-colonial Filipino script with traditional cultural elements. His work combines the script of Baybayin with influences from traditional Filipino art and jewelry, creating a visual style that draws on motifs such as the Maranao Okir, the Sarimanok, the Kulintang pattern, and the Lingling-o charm from the Cordilleras.[1]

[edit]Taipan Lucero is from Manila, with heritage connections to the regions of Ilocos and Samar. He graduated cum laude from the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts, specializing in visual communications, advertising, and marketing. His academic background provided the foundation for his career in design and cultural arts.[2]
Career
[edit]Lucero began his professional career as an independent creative industry professional, working with clients that included Fortune 500 companies. He later accepted a design role in Kobe, Japan, where he became the only Filipino designer at his company. It was during his time in Japan that Lucero trained in Shodo (Japanese calligraphy), an experience that influenced his interest in cultural preservation and inspired him to develop CalligraFilipino upon returning to the Philippines.[3]
