This submission appears to read more like an advertisement than an entry in an encyclopedia. Encyclopedia articles need to be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources, not just to materials produced by the creator of the subject being discussed. This is important so that the article can meet Wikipedia's verifiability policy and the notability of the subject can be established. If you still feel that this subject is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, please rewrite your submission to comply with these policies. Declined by CNMall41 8 months ago. |
- Comment: I have taken the time to make an edit to address the tone concerns of the previous reviewer, but I cannot address all of it as for reasons I cannot disclose I cannot access a majority of the sources listed here. Click me for edit. It is imperative, considering the quality of the prose, that Wikipedia:Neutral point of view and Wikipedia:Words to avoid be read by the draft creator - especially considering their declared conflict of interest. —Sirdog (talk) 06:57, 20 January 2024 (UTC)

- Comment: Taking a look at the THREE you provided, they are all routine coverage in my opinion. Other reviewers may have a different opinion so I will hold off on declining in order to get a second opinion. CNMall41 (talk) 19:29, 21 December 2023 (UTC)

I've added three new references to the article: :Item 8: Adrian Dunkley Believes in AI for the Public Good:Item 9: Official Wants Protection for Potential Victims of AI Scamming :Item 14: AI Can Improve Public Health:Also, here are the references I consider the WP:THREE - :Item 2: RJR Gleaner Group Acquires 15 Per Cent Stake in Data Analytics Company :Item 3: UCC and StarApple Join Forces in AI Drive:Item 6: You are Reading an NFT:I trust that all is now in order, and I look forward to hearing from you soon." - Comment: This was previously declined for advert tone and for references not meeting ORGCRIT. Are you able to first point out what references were added/changed prior to resubmission as I do not see any. Please point out the WP:THREE in order to help reviewers. CNMall41 (talk) 06:59, 20 December 2023 (UTC)
- Comment: Much of the content reads like the company website. It needs to be rewritten from the viewpoint of Wikipedia, not the company. In addition, the references fail WP:ORGCRIT in that they are mentions, routine announcements, or not independent (note that some were written by people connected to StarApple AI). StarApple AI is a Jamaican startup company specialising in artificial intelligence (AI), founded by Adrian Dunkley in December 2019.[1] The company focuses on consumer and business analytics, as well as management consulting.
History
[edit]Established in 2019 by Adrian Dunkley in Kingston, Jamaica, StarApple initially directed its efforts toward AI development.[2] In September 2021, RJRGleaner Communications Group, the owner of RJR Radio, Television Jamaica, and The Gleaner newspaper, purchased a stake in the company.[2]
In October 2022, StarApple AI partnered with the University of the Commonwealth Caribbean for several projects. These included an AI-supported financial aid tool, a sports lab incorporating AI for drones and analytics for game outcome predictions, and learning labs for data analytics training.[3]
The company also has operations in Miami, Florida.[4][5]
Industry applications
[edit]StarApple offers information technology, consultancy, and corporate data analytics training.[2][6]
In January 2022, StarApple introduced non-fungible tokens (NFTs).[7] The company donated the proceeds from an NFT derived from a Jamaica Observer article to local STEAM programs[7]
Adrian Dunkley, the founder, uses the company's AI for artistic pursuits, creating paintings such as "Football Supernova" and "Blazing Sprint Goddess."[8] Dunkley believes in the capacity of AI to create employment opportunities in Jamaica.[9] Nevertheless, he promotes the implementation of protective measures for those adversely affected by the heightened prevalence of AI-generated content spanning text, audio, images, and videos.[10][peacock prose]
Technology and research
[edit]Since August 2022, StarApple has been developing an AI assistant coach system for football teams, with plans to expand to track and field.[11]
In April 2023, the company collaborated with the Game of Life Foundation to host the inaugural SportsBrain Youth Football Combine in Jamaica, using AI for player data collection, success rate forecasting, and program design.[12]
The company has suggested the use of AI to augment the tourism experience in Jamaica. Specifically, it proposes the establishment of an augmented reality (AR) network aimed at enhancing safety during excursions and other experiences and incorporating gamification elements into vacation activities.[13][peacock prose]
In October 2023, the company's "Section 9" research group employed the GPT-4V multimodal model to test 24 candy brands after the hospitalisation of more than 60 students.[14] Multimodal AI models are crafted to analyze, interpret, and derive insights from diverse data types, including text and images.[15] The AI model identified substances, including tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), in one of the sweet treats.[14] The THC-infused candies exhibited a marked resemblance to conventional sweets.[15][peacock prose]
Community involvement
[edit]StarApple AI actively participates in various community sectors, including sports, tourism, education, and entertainment.[16] Initiatives include offering generative AI training for companies and sponsoring the JamA.I.ca Codefest Hackathon hosted by the US Embassy in Jamaica.[17]
