Spirience is a concept that refers to the integration of science and spirituality, suggesting that the combination of these domains can foster greater peace, purpose, and well-being. The idea was introduced in the book Spirience: Experiencing Peace and Prosperity through Spirituality and Science by Mahāmahopādhyāya Swami Bhadreshdas[1]. The term "spirience" is a blend of "spirituality" and "science," aiming to illustrate the connection between inner spiritual insight and external scientific investigation.
Principle of Spirience
[edit]The concept of spirience posits that while modern science and technology have led to significant advancements,[2] they may not fully address deeper human needs for inner peace, purpose, and lasting happiness.[3] The “spirientific” approach[4] suggests that true fulfillment involves integrating empirical knowledge with spiritual understanding. This approach encourages a holistic view of life, combining measurable scientific progress with insights derived from spirituality.
Advocates of spirience suggest that spirituality complements the analytical nature of science by providing perspectives on human existence that go beyond material and empirical concerns. The integration of both fields is proposed as a means to address global challenges, fostering a balance between scientific achievements and experiential wisdom.
Etymology
[edit]The term 'spirience' combines the words "spirituality" and "science." The prefix "spiri-" refers to spirituality, while the suffix "-ence" represents science, encapsulating the idea of blending these two domains.[5]

The Book: Spirience: Experiencing Peace and Prosperity through Spirituality and Science
[edit]The concept of spirience is elaborated in the book Spirience: Experiencing Peace and Prosperity through Spirituality and Science.[6] The book discusses the limitations of a strictly scientific worldview in addressing existential concerns,[7] advocating for an integrated approach that unites spiritual and scientific perspectives.[8] The authors suggest that such integration can inspire a more comprehensive understanding of peace and prosperity, especially in the context of rapid technological advancements.
The book proposes that by combining the insights of spirituality with scientific progress, individuals and societies can achieve a more harmonious and fulfilling existence. It further suggests that the 21st century presents an opportunity to rethink approaches to peace and prosperity through this integrated framework.
