Siobhán Ní Ghadhra (born 15 October 1976) is an Irish producer and media executive who has worked in the film and television industry, primarily in animation and children's programming.[1]

Early life and education

Siobhán Ní Ghadhra was born on 15 October 1976, in Na Forbacha, County Galway, Ireland. Her father was Nollaig Ó Gadhra, and her mother was Máirín Uí Ghadhra (née Ní Chonghaile). Her grandfather was renowned author Seán Ó Conghaile. She is the youngest of three children; her older sister is broadcaster Máirín Ní Ghadhra, and she has an older brother, Daithí Ó Gadhra.

She grew up in Na Forbacha and attended the local primary school, Scoil Náisiúnta na bhForbacha. She then attended a secondary school in An Spidéal, Coláiste Chroí Muire, where she graduated in 1994. She attended University of Galway, where she completed an honours B.A. in Gaeilge and economics in 1997. In 1998, she graduated with first-class honours from her post-graduate studies, Ard Diplóma sa Chumarsáid Feidhmeach. Ní Ghadhra studied for an LLB and graduated with honours in 2007 from University of Galway.

Career

Ní Ghadhra was appointed as Chief Operating Officer in January 2012.[2] Within her new position, she is responsible for the day-to-day operations at Telegael. A current project is overseeing the establishment of a new Stop Motion Facility in Galway, which will produce stop-motion TV series and features. The first project, Igam Ogam, (for S4C, ZDF Enterprises, and Channel 5) is due to begin production in mid-February 2013.

In May 2014, Ní Ghadhra established Danú Media, a new independent production company based in Galway, along with John Brady, Producer, and former CEO of Studio Solas. The new company currently has several projects in development and is also focused on international co-production for TV drama and film projects.

In 2021, Danú Media established Atlantic Academy, a new training entity for the TV and film industry, and in December 2021 was announced by Screen Ireland / Fís Éireann as the lead organization for Crew Academy West as part of the National Talent Academies initiative.

She is currently Executive Producer on Ros na Rún, one of Ireland's longest-running TV drama series. Ní Ghadhra produced the Tween Drama Series entitled Saol Ella for TG4 / Coimisún na Meán in 2022 and is in post-production on a new Cine 4 film entitled Báite, due to be released in early 2025.

She was appointed to the Board of Creative Europe Desk Galway in 2014.

She was appointed to the Board of TG4 in December 2017.

She was appointed to the External Strategy Board for University of Galway in February 2019.

She was appointed to the Board of Ardán (formerly Galway Film Centre) in 2020.

In June 2024, Ní Ghadhra was appointed by the government as the Chairperson of Údarás na Gaeltachta.[3]

Personal life

Ní Ghadhra married John Brady on 28 December 2006. They live where her mother's family home was situated in Na hAille, Indreabhán, County Galway. They have four children: Síofra (2008), Ríona (2010), Naoise (2014), and Odhrán (2016). She is active in her local GAA club Cumann Peile Micheál Breathnach and her local school Scoil Sailearna.

Awards and recognition

In 2004, Ní Ghadhra was awarded an Emmy Award as the producer of Tutenstein.[4]

In 2016, Ní Ghadhra was presented with the NUIG Alumni Award for Arts and Media.
