She Loves Me was a 1979 TV play based of the book of the same name and based on the 1963 broadway musical The Shop Around the Corner.[1] The play was produced by the BBC and screened on 13 April 1979 on BBC Two.[2][3]
Plot
[edit]Set in 1934, Georg Nowack an employer works at "Maraczek's Parfumerie" along with Ladislav Sipos, Steven Kodaly, Ilona Ritter and Arpad Laszlo, with all of them working for Mr. Maraczek the boss and owner. One day a woman named Amalia Balash arrives in the shop and wants to get a job working there. Mr. Maraczek denies it at first but then decides to let her have the job after he sees the way she survived one of the customers. Georg Nowack is also writing letters to women although he doesn't realise that the women he's writing to isn't Amalia Balash and neither does Amalia Balash. Georg Nowack counties to write until he writes one letter to her asking her out for a date, but later in the evening when he arrives he gets shocked when he realises the women he was writing to was Amalia Balash and because of this he gets so nervous. Georg Nowack then decides to go and see her but Amalia Balash thinks he's come to ruin her night and so Georg Nowack decides to leave. The next day Mr. Maraczek is in the hospital after he tried to kill himself and Arpad Laszlo asks him if he can work there since he may need help in the shop. Mr. Maraczek says yes and he also decides to let Georg Nowack be in charge of the shop until he recovers. Georg Nowack also goes to see Amalia Balash in the morning and lies to her that he had seen the man that she was ment to meet last night and he also tells her that the man, he had seen was to nervous to meet her and that he had decided he wanted to meet her on Christmas Eve and so Georg Nowack try's to run the shop while at the same time he try's to please Amalia Balash and then on Christmas Eve Georg Nowack finally reveals to her that he was the one who wrote the letters to her and then Georg Nowack and Amalia Balash then fall in love with each other.

Reception
[edit]The play itself was originally going to be screened on 22 December 1978 but for unknown reasons the play was postponed to the 13 April 1979.[4][5]
Music
[edit]The play also hand musical songs added in the movie which were the same songs used in the 1963 musical stage play adaptation.
