Segun Aina, OFR (born January 31, 1943)[1] is a Nigerian businessman, the group chairman of Odu'a Investment Company[2] and the President of the FinTech Association of Nigeria.[3] He is the chairman of Opolo Global Innovation Ltd., an innovation advisory platform, and in 2012, he010 was conferred the National Honour of Officer of the Order (OFR) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria[4]
Early life and education
[edit]Aina was born in Otan Ayegbaju in Osun State, Nigeria, in 1943. He obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Accounting from the University of Lagos,[5] and a Master of Science degree in Banking and Finance from the University of Ibadan. He had the best dissertation in the 1984 class of M.Sc. Banking and Finance at the University of Ibadan and then received executive management education at the Lagos Business School, Nigeria; INSEAD, Fontainebleau, France; and IMD, Lausanne, Switzerland.
Honors and Accomplishments
[edit]Aina holds the Nigeria National Honors of Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic(OFR), awarded in 2010,[6] and received honorary award of Doctor of Science Education (D.Sc. Ed.) in Business Education (Honoris Causa) from Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijebu Ode in ,November 2016.[7] He was also awarded an honorary Doctor of Science in Management (D. Sc. Honoris Causa) in 2018 by the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) and honorary Doctorate Degree in Business Administration (D.B.A.) Hooris Causa fro)m Osun State University, Osogbo in ,2022[8]
Aina was member of the pioneer Advancement Board of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife from 2006 to 2012 and currently serving as Chairman of Advancement Board of Federal University of Technology Akure[9] and Member, University of Ibadan Research Foundation.[10] He was a member of the National Conference for the People of Nigeria, which was made up of 492 eminent Nigerians[11][12] in diverse fields[13][3]
Career
[edit]Aina started his career as a bank clerk at the United Bank for Africa (UBA) in 1974. He left as a branch manager after 15 years with UBA in 1989. He moved to the then-newly established Ecobank Nigeria Plc, where he became the executive director after four years of service. In 1999, he moved to Fountain Trust Bank (now part of Heritage Bank) as managing director and chief executive officer.
