The Scenic Moraine Conference is a former high school athletic conference in Wisconsin, operating from 1958 to 1980 with its membership concentrated in the Kettle Moraine region.
History
[edit]The Scenic Moraine Conference was formed in 1958 by six high schools located in Washington and Fond du Lac Counties[1] Campbellsport, Germantown, Grafton, Kewaskum, North Fond du Lac and Slinger. Pewaukee joined in 1959[2][3], and Random Lake joined as a full member the year after[4], bringing conference membership to eight schools. The conference remained at eight members for its entire existence, with Arrowhead[5] replacing Random Lake[6][7] in 1969 and Kettle Moraine[8] and Mayville[9] replacing Campbellsport and North Fond du Lac in 1970[10]. This alignment remained for the rest of the conference's history, but large gulfs were developing between member school districts in enrollment levels[11][12], and by the mid-1970s it became clear that realignment was imminent[13][14]. In 1980, the conference was realigned out of existence[15], as three schools each were moved to the Braveland Conference (Arrowhead[16], Germantown[17] and Grafton[18]) and Parkland Conference[19] (Kettle Moraine, Pewaukee and Slinger). The other two schools, Kewaskum and Mayville, moved to the Eastern Wisconsin[20][21] and Flyway[22][23] conferences, respectively.
