Roy Peretz
[edit]Baruch "Roy" Peretz (born December 28, 1962, in Tel Aviv, Israel) is a South African businessman, reality television personality, and owner of the Gold & Diamond Pawn Shop "Cash Inn," prominently featured in the History Channel's series Pawn Stars South Africa.
Early Life
[edit]Roy Peretz was born in Tel Aviv, Israel. He pursued chemical engineering and successfully started Peretz Manufacturing, a chemical company that he established in 1988, [1]he then ventured into the pawn industry in South Africa in 1999.
Career
[edit]In 1999,[2] Peretz sold his chemical factory to pursue a new venture in the pawn industry. He opened his first second-hand store, Loancorp, which specialised in gold and silver trading, operating out of a 300 square-foot location. After five years, he relocated the store to Louis Botha Avenue, where it grew significantly. Two years later, Peretz sold Loancorp and launched Cashinn, a larger and more prominent pawn shop situated in Hyde Park, Sandton. Cashinn became renowned for its dealings in luxury goods, including high-end watches, diamonds, artwork, rare collectables, and vehicles. In 2014, the History Channel selected Cashinn as the focus of the South African adaptation of the hit reality series Pawn Stars. The show documented the daily operations of the shop, emphasising Peretz's expertise in luxury appraisal and negotiation skills.
Television
[edit]"Pawn Stars South Africa" debuted on October 14, 2014, on the History Channel. Produced by Rapid blue[3], the show highlighted Peretz's charismatic personality and keen eye for identifying valuable items, known for his smooth negotiation style and attention to detail, Peretz became a household name in South Africa. In 2016 Peretz and the Cashinn team launched a podcast channel to discuss trends in the pawn industry, including insights into gold trading, diamonds and luxury goods.
Personal Life
[edit]Roy Peretz is a family man with a passion for living. He is an active member of the Riviera Aquatic club[2][1] and frequently visits the Vaal River for water sports. His love for water extends to his environmental advocacy efforts. Known for his charm and leadership, he is affectionately known as "the Boss" by his clients and team members.[1] Peretz resides in Johannesburg with his family and continues to manage Cashinn, maintaining its status as on of South Africa's most respected Pawn shops.
Legacy
[edit]Roy Peretz has been credited with bringing a new perspective to the South African pawn industry through his TV appearances and innovative business practices. His work has highlighted the cultural and historical significance of items traded in pawn shops, earning him recognition beyond South Africa.
