Rao Bhojraj Singh Lol also known as Rao Bhojaji was born into the Jagirdar family of Mandhar. He later became popular for his social work and was known as Barvatiya Sirdar.[1] He is exalted as the only Barvatiya from the Marwar region.

Early life

[edit]

Rao Bhojaji was born in the village of Butadi in his maternal grandfather, Akhaji Butrecha's house. His childhood was mostly spent in Mandhar, where he grew fond of hunting and archery.[1]

Social works

[edit]

At the age of 18, Bhojaji left his house and got himself involved in the works of social welfare and helping and protecting the downtrodden of the society. He took shelter under Khodeshwar Mahadev and was later known as Barvatiya Sirdar. Barvatiya Sirdars are those who sacrifice their life protecting helpless peoples.

He was a devout of Bayan Mata of Chittor. On one of his visit to the temple, in the town of Gogunda, he and his entourage rescued the Cows of Rajdan Charan from Afghan soldiers. He provided military services to Sirohi Darbar during his active years. He sacrificed his life facing Jodhpur ruler Rao Chandrasen's army near Sagi river between Dantlawas and Rajikawas and became immortal as a Sati forever.[1]

Temple

[edit]

The place where Rao Bhojaji Lol attained chastity is situated at the Sagi river flowing on the border of Dantlawas and Rajikawas villages. Every month on the eighth day, a crowd of devotees go there to bow their heads.[1]
