Submission declined on 3 July 2022 by Missvain (talk). The proposed article does not have sufficient content to require an article of its own, but it could be merged into the existing article at Annamie_Paul#Controversy. Since anyone can edit Wikipedia, you are welcome to add that information yourself. Thank you. Declined by Missvain 2 years ago. |
Submission declined on 22 February 2022 by CNMall41 (talk). While I am leaning towards this meeting WP:GNG, I am not inclined to approve a draft that is a coatrack. First, it has promo wording such as "Zatzman was thrust into the spotlight." Also, half of the bio is editorialized with an incident from 2021. If that incident is notable, it needs to have a page, but not use a BLP as a way to introduce it into Wikipedia. Declined by CNMall41 2 years ago. |
Submission declined on 6 December 2021 by Bkissin (talk). This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia. Declined by Bkissin 3 years ago. |

- Comment: Per Bearcat and others this would be better suited if it were merged into Annamie Paul#Controversy. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 20:00, 9 January 2023 (UTC)
- Comment: I agree with Bearcat on this one. Perhaps I would redirect this to Annamie_Paul#Controversy. Definitely some POV issues here too. Bkissin (talk) 18:52, 6 December 2021 (UTC)
- Comment: Noah Zatzman isn't just a former backroom advisor/spokesman, he was the catalyst and main figure in a controversy that was at the epicentre of the crisis that almost forced Green Party leader Annamie Paul out of office on the eve of an election and that contributed to the party's collapse during the election, and Paul's subsequent resignation. He is the focus of several mainstream news articles:*National Post: Federal Greens won't renew contract of top adviser who accused party members of antisemitism*National Post: Green leader silent on party's key demand that she disavow ex-advisor who supported Israel*Globe and Mail: Green Party gives Annamie Paul ultimatum to avoid confidence vote2607:FEA8:7DF:D700:B805:59C8:A0DE:15B2 (talk) 18:25, 5 December 2021 (UTC)
- Comment: Having been a backroom advisor and media spokesperson for a political party leader is not an "inherently" notable role that automatically guarantees a Wikipedia article in and of itself, but the sourcing here is nowhere near adequate to get him over WP:GNG for it. The referencing consists mainly of primary sources that are not support for notability at all and glancing namechecks of his existence in news stories that aren't about him in any non-trivial way, and the very few sources (Tyee, Jewish Insider) that are actually helping to establish notability by being both reliable and substantively about Noah Zatzman don't add up to enough coverage to pass GNG. Noah Zatzman (born 1984) is a Canadian political strategist and media consultant.[1] Zatzman served as a top advisor and spokesperson to Green Party leader Annamie Paul,[2] Canada's first Black federal party leader. He has served as a senior adviser and campaign aide to numerous Canadian politicians.[3]
Early life and education
[edit]Zatzman was born in 1984 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He was was raised in Toronto's Cedarvale neighbourhood.[4]
Zatzman is the scion of two prominent Canadian Jewish families. He is the great-nephew of former Dartmouth Mayor Joseph Zatzman, CM,[4] namesake of Dartmouth's Zatzman Sportsplex and Joseph Zatzman Drive, and grandson of Mike Zatzman (brother to Joe) who owned and operated Cleve's Sporting Goods in Halifax until 1972.[5] Zatzman is also the eldest great-grandson and grandson of Benzion Hyman and Gurion Hyman, respectively.[6][4] The Hyman family owned and operated Hyman's Bookstore,[4] [7]which "played a significant role in shaping the cultural landscape of Toronto's Kensington Market."[8]
Zatzman is a graduate of the Community Hebrew Academy (CHAT)[9][10].
He was a noted pro-Israel activist in Canadian campus politics,[11] serving as a Vice-President of the Canadian Federations of Jewish Students (CFJS).[12][7]
Career
[edit]Zatzman's political career began as a junior aide in the office of Liberal MP Navdeep Bains,[13] future Industry Minister.
Zatzman served as a political adviser to Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne for most of Wynne's time as Ontario's first female Premier.[14][13]
In addition, for many years, Zatzman worked for Bell Media/CTV as Discovery Channel's Canadian publicist,[13] including on its nightly flagship program Daily Planet.[15][16]
Zatzman began consulting for the campaign of family friend Annamie Paul in July 2020[13], following Paul's declaration as a candidate for the Green Party federal leadership.[16] Zatzman began serving as a senior adviser to Paul following her winning the Green Party federal leadership election in October 2020.[17] In addition, media reported Zatzman played a pivotal role in Paul's strong by-election results in the riding of Toronto Centre that same month.[13][18]
Paul was Canada's first Black federal party leader and only second Jewish federal leader, after David Lewis, and Zatzman was widely considered her paramount and most influential aide.[19]
In May 2021 during the Israel-Hamas violence, Zatzman publicly accused prominent Canadian politicians, including Green MPs Jenica Atwin and Paul Manly of discrimination in a May 14 Facebook post, calling their statements against Israel "appalling" and "antisemitic".[20]
Following these statements, the Green Party of Canada's Federal Council alleged they had voted not to renew Zatzman's contract in early June.[21] Zatzman disputed this assertion[22], and told the Canadian online publication iPolitics in an interview that the split had been mutual, saying: "“it was agreed by both sides. Any suggestion to the contrary is false".
Atwin subsequently crossed the floor and joined the Liberal Party on June 10, citing lack of support from Paul's leadership after Zatzman's accusation of antisemitism.[18]
On June 15, the Green Party's federal council passed a motion requiring Paul to denounce Zatzman and support the federal caucus, under threat of a vote of no confidence.[23] These events led to significant global attention for Paul, Zatzman, and Atwin[24][25], and dominated national headlines and editorials in Canada through the summer of 2021.[26][27][28][29][30]
Media reported in June 2021 that Zatzman had stepped away from his role advising Paul following "antisemitic threats".[31]
In October 2021, Zatzman joined Aurora Strategy Global, a public relations firm closely associated with the Ontario Liberals and Liberal Leader Bonnie Crombie.[32][18][16] [33]
In 2023, Zatzman served in a key campaign role to Toronto Mayoral runner-up Ana Bailao.[34]
Personal life
[edit]Zatzman is Jewish and openly gay.[35]
He is the chairperson of United Jewish Appeal of Greater Toronto's LGBTQ+ Division.[36]
