Relatives

[edit]

Nikolaos Taxiarxis Kranidiotis is part of the extended Kranidiotis family, historically notable for their contributions to politics and public life in Greece and Cyprus.

One branch of the family traces back to two brothers:

  • One brother migrated to Cyprus, becoming a close relative of Γιάννος Κρανιδιώτης (Giannos Kranidiotis), a prominent Greek-Cypriot diplomat and politician.[2]
  • The other brother settled on the island of Samos, directly connecting to Nikolaos’s great-grandfather.

The family’s roots trace back to the early 19th century, as described by distant relative Φαήλος Κρανιδιώτης (Failos Kranidiotis). According to him, the family’s history began when their great-great-great-grandfather left for Kyrenia, Cyprus, around 1832. After a pivotal event, he fled to avoid capture and eventually settled in Mytilene, where he married and started a family.[3]

A branch of the family later migrated to Samos, connecting directly to Nikolaos’s great-grandfather, who was born and raised on the island. This migration established a lasting connection to Samos, which remains an important part of the family’s history.

Failos Kranidiotis’s lineage originates from the branch of the family that remained in Mytilene, where his great-grandfather, grandfather, and father were born. Another distant relative, Antonis Kranidiotis, resides in Samos due to his marriage to a local resident, further strengthening the ties between the family’s Samos and Mytilene branches.
