Nathan Scoggins is an American film director.[1]

Early Life

[edit]

Born in Rhode Island, Scoggins was heavily involved in theater at an early age and produced plays during high school and in college.[2] He subsequently graduated from Wesleyan University in 1999.[3]

Work

[edit]

Scoggins produced and directed the Award-winning Doritos Super Bowl Commercials known as ‘Sling Baby’ and ‘Fashionista Daddy’[4] The 'Sling Baby' commerical was voted it No. 1 in the USA Today/Facebook Super Bowl Ad Meter in 2012.[5]

Scoggins helped producer Red Line, a disaster film starring Nicole Gale Anderson and John Billingsley. The majority of the film took place in the soundstage of John Paul the Great Catholic University. [6]

Scoggins is most known to mainstream audiences for his work on the 2022 film What Remains.[7] One of Anne Heche's last films before her passing in 2022.[8] The film follows a recently paroled convict who returns to the small town where he committed a murder. The local sheriff investigates another mysterious homicide which may be related.[9] The film also stars Marcus Gladney Jr., Stelio Savante, and Juliana Destefano.[10]

He is also known for The Least of These, a drama starring Isiah Washington, Robert Loggia, Bob Gunton, and John Billingsley.[11] The story follows a priest returning to the Catholic high school where he once was sexually abused.[12]

Both What Remains and The Least of these was made by Scoggins' longtime collaborator, Ralph Winter.[13]

Personal Life

[edit]

He is a Christian.[14] He is currently a professor at John Paul the Great Catholic University[15] and included faculty and staff in the making of What Remains[16]

Following Heche's death in 2022, Scoggins penned a tribute to Heche on instagram[17] and for Variety, stating: "Working with her was exhausting and exhilarating at the same time. She came to the set with a quicksilver energy — you felt lucky to catch it. Sometimes it was work, but most days you just sat there in awe. She was that good."[18] and "As the last feature film Anne Heche completed before she died, I felt a particular commitment to the best release strategy to honour her legacy, as well as the extraordinary work by Cress Williams and Kellan Lutz."[19]
