Melissa Geurts is a Canadian creative director and currently the Group Creative Director at Good Housekeeping.[1]

Early Life and Education

[edit]

Geurts studied Graphic Design at Durham College, graduating in 2008. She credits her early career success to the hands-on experience provided by the program's internship.[2]

Career

[edit]

Geurts began her career at Chatelaine, where she worked on the magazine's visual direction before becoming Design Director. During her tenure, the magazine achieved the highest readership among Canadian magazines.[3]

In 2014, she was appointed Creative Director at Good Housekeeping. Her work includes directing the magazine's first illustrated cover in six decades, which the Society of Publication Designers highlighted for its innovative approach.[4]

Recognition

[edit]

Geurts's work has been recognized by several industry organizations. She received a General Excellence nomination from the American Society of Magazine Editors in 2023,[5] and her creative direction was highlighted by Folio magazine.[6] The Society of Publication Designers has featured her work at Good Housekeeping.[7]

Geurts has served as a judge for several prominent industry awards, including the National Magazine Awards (Canada),[8] the American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME), and the Art Directors Club (ADC) Awards.[9]

In 2016, Geurts was recognized with an AI-AP award for an editorial photograph of Linda Rodin, which she art-directed.[10]
