Manarisu (Japanese: マナリス) is a Japanese man who has eaten at Sukiya (a beef bowl restaurant chain) for every day since 2019. Documenting the experience on Twitter and YouTube has also made him an Internet celebrity.
Originally meant as a way to save money towards a Nintendo Switch, Manarisu began the self-imposed challenge on September 1, 2019, publishing a referral link for the payment app Merpay to his Twitter feed. Each user signing up through his link would award both the referrer and referee ¥1,000 (later lowered to ¥500), which Manarisu pledged to spend at Sukiya until his balance reached zero. Initially expecting to get only one or two referrals if lucky, he reached ¥5,000 after just two days. His balance has since waxed and waned for several years without ever reaching zero, peaking at over ¥600,000. As of 2024[update], his pledge is still ongoing.
On January 10, 2022, Manarisu was featured in the TV program 激レアさんを連れてきた ('I brought Mr. Super Rare'), being introduced as "the person who has been eating Sukiya for 803 days".
On June 19, 2022, Manarisu reached the 1,000th day of his pledge. To celebrate this occasion, he released an original song and music video on his YouTube channel, and YouTuber Hajime Syacho joined him for his daily Sukiya meal.
His challenge has received several acknowledgements from the Sukiya corporation itself, such as being given a luxurious donburi bowl and being praised by their official Twitter account.
