Kokoa Amor is an American musical artist and performer based in Los Angelos is songwriter/ rapper. Musically influenced by hip-hop/R&B musician who works in variety of genres. Her lyrics often address emotional, empowering and hedonistic themes.

Amor launched her music career in 2021 as an independent artist. She has released several singles, including "Be Great"[1]2021  "With You"[2] 2022 "Pop It"[3] 2023 “Go Go"[4] and “Swing Ya Way"[5] 2024

Early life

Kokoa Amor (born Ebony Dorsey; April 11, 1988) is an American singer and rapper from Baltimore, Maryland.

Born to Carolyn Dorsey (Nichols), a former cook, and Jerry Dorsey, an upholsterer and reverend, Amor grew up in a large family as one of eleven children, with six older siblings and four younger siblings. Both parents had artistic backgrounds—her father was a singer and her mother a dancer. Two of her older brothers, who were singer/songwriters and rappers, also played a major role in shaping her musical journey.

Growing up in Baltimore, Amor was immersed in music from an early age, particularly through her involvement in her church's choir. Her early musical education came from her parents' extensive collection of soul and gospel albums. As she grew older, she developed a strong interest in hip-hop and R&B, teaching herself to rap, dance, and write.

In the beginning of Amor's career she was professional none as IamKokoa before venturing her brand into another direction Natalie Bennett of Tempostub[8] during her interview she states: I am rebranded myself, bringing a different dynamic to my music. Highlighting the fact that she isn’t merely an

entertainer but a progressive artist as well.

Amor’s lyrical production is typically considered to be “empowering “ or "hedonistic". Her songs mainly cover themes of sex, desire, romantic love, betrayaldetermination, courage and independence. Along with her vocals her songwriting is considered to be one of the things that distinct her from other hip-hop artist of her time.

Amor has performed at various venues and events throughout the Phoenix and Los Angeles area metropolitan.

Amor has established herself in the Arizona music scene through multiple live performances at prominent venues. In 2024, she performed at The Virgil for Bruce Wayne's Level Up Concert and at Hello Stranger for the PayDay Concert[9]. She was also featured at Accidental Chaos[10]

In 2023, she performed at the Wyndham Phoenix during the Super Bowl LVII Showcase. The previous year, she appeared at Maya Club Mesa and performed at Bar Smith during the Arizona Hip-Hop Fest 2022.

In 2021, Amor performed at Bandoleros Night Club for the Who's Hotta Competition, where she shared the stage with rapper Twista. That same year, she also performed at the Monarch Theater for Respect the Underground Arizona Hip-Hop Fest 2021.

When discussing her upbringing, Amor stated: “There nowhere I couldn’t go without a bible. We used to go to church almost every day if I wasn't at church I’ll be by my dads side as he gets ready for his up coming sermons studying bible scriptures one always stuck with me John 3:16 he made me study it all the time.  His Eye Is on the Sparrow was one of my favorite songs my dad used to sing it to me all the time before he passed.
