Jason Lopchan (Nepali: जेसन लोप्चन) is a Nepalese director, writer and Actor, known for directing the first Nepali feature film shot entirely on iPhone, A Place Under the Sun (2024)[1][2]
Career
[edit]In 2018, Lopchan gained popularity for directing Balen Shah's comeback music video, Marpha Ko Madira, which gained over four million views in YouTube.[3]
In 2021, Lopchan made his directorial debut through science fiction movie, Ananta, starring Karma Shakya and Laxmi Bardewa.[4][5] However, the movie never got released.[6]
In 2024, Lopchan announced his second feature film titled A Place Under the Sun. The movie, shot entirely on iPhone 14 Pro Max, currently holds an IMDb rating of 9.2, making it one of the highest rated Nepali movies.[7][8] The movie garnered critical acclaim for its unorthodox storytelling, striking cinematography and the nuanced performances of the cast. However some criticisms were aimed towards the pace of the movie.[9][10]
Personal life
[edit]Lopchan, an avid comic book fan, has often cosplayed as various superheroes at the Nepal premiere of Marvel movies.[11]
Lopchan also owns a Friends themed cafe called Central Perk Boudha located in Boudha, Nepal.[12]
