Charith Peris, known by his stage name, hachajah, is a singer-songwriter and producer. Born in Sri Lanka, he has been involved in Sri Lankan choral scene, both accompanied and a cappella, before he emigrated to the US.[1]. He formed hachajah in 2024.

He creates original a cappella music inspired by his experiences growing up in war-torn Sri Lanka[2]. In contrast to typical a cappella where a significant portion of work is dedicated to covers, hachajah’s main goal was to promote the creation of a cappella originals[3].

His first EP album titled No Place Like was based on his experiences growing up in the city of Colombo, Sri Lanka[4].

Career

[edit]

hachajah's debut EP album titled No Place Like comprises of narratives set in South Asian culture with arrangements that are pop heavy[5]. The title song Colombo Sky fuses Sri Lankan drum beats with pop a cappella to bring out his fond experiences in Colombo. Closer is about teenage love and infatuation while Mother, as the title suggests, is a tribute to his mother[6]
