Gamezop is a plug-and-play gaming platform that allows apps and websites to integrate casual games directly into their platforms without requiring users to download individual apps for each game.[1][2] Founded in 2015 by brothers Yashash Agarwal and Gaurav Agarwal, the company is headquartered in Gurugram, India. Gamezop has expanded its offerings to include Quizzop, a quiz platform; Astrozop, which provides astrology content; and Criczop, a cricket-focused content platform.[3]

The company operates using a B2B2C distribution model, collaborating with apps and websites to distribute its products, including Gamezop and Quizzop. Partner developers receive a share of the advertising revenue generated from the users they direct to Gamezop’s platforms.[4][5]

As of 2023, Gamezop’s products had been integrated with over 8,000 apps and websites across 70 different countries. Notable partners include Amazon, Samsung, Tata Play, Times Internet, and AccuWeather. [6][7][8]The platform is designed to increase user engagement while generating advertising revenue.

History

[edit]

Gamezop was founded in 2015 by brothers Yashash Agarwal and Gaurav Agarwal.[9] The idea for Gamezop originated from Yashash's observations about the inefficiency of downloading apps for casual gaming.[10] Gamezop addresses this by embedding HTML5 games directly into apps and websites, which allows users to play games seamlessly without needing separate app installations.[11][12][13][14]

In developing Gamezop, the company adopted HTML5 technology to ensure games could be played across different devices and platforms. Gaurav Agarwal, who had previously worked at Bain & Company, joined Yashash in building the company, contributing his experience to the company's business strategy.[15][16]

Since its founding, Gamezop has grown into a multi-platform service, expanding to include Quizzop, Astrozop, and Criczop, catering to a broader range of content beyond gaming.[17][18][19]

Products

[edit]

Gamezop has expanded its range of services with additional platforms. The core platform offers 250+ wide range of HTML5 casual games across various categories, including action, puzzle, sports, and arcade, among others.[20][21] Gamezop's platform is integrated into various apps and websites, providing users access to online games. The platform is designed for compatibility across devices and aims to be easily integrated into existing ecosystems.

Quizzop is an online quiz platform featuring quizzes across multiple categories, including general knowledge, entertainment, sports, and science. The platform maintains a blog where users can explore content related to pop culture and other events of global significance.[22][23][24]

Astrozop offers astrology services including horoscopes, love compatibility, fortune-cookie readings, and tarot readings. Like Gamezop and Quizzop, Astrozop is also available as a plug-and-play integration to apps and websites.[25]

Criczop launched in 2023, this platform provides live cricket scores, matches, commentary, latest news & trending content related to cricket.[26]

Through its products, Gamezop states that it helps apps and websites increase user engagement and offers a potential new revenue stream via their advertising-revenue sharing program.[27]

Growth and Expansion

[edit]

Gamezop was established in 2015, marking the start of its journey in the mobile gaming industry.[47] The company turned profitable in 2017, a significant milestone in its early years. In 2016, Gamezop raised $350K in seed funding led by Kwan, with participation from Powerhouse Ventures, Tracxn Labs, AECAL, and from notable angels such as Anand Chandrasekaran, redBus co-founder Phanindra Sama, and Bollywood actor Rana Daggubati.[48]

A recent survey by Gamezop suggested that the inclusion of games on non-gaming platforms could increase user engagement time by 15-40%. Quizzop, a trivia platform affiliated with Gamezop, indicated similar findings in terms of increasing engagement on third-party apps and websites.[49][50][51][52][53][54][55][56][57]

In 2018, Gamezop reported over 1.5 million daily users.[58]That same year, the company stated that revenue from outside India doubled, accounting for 50% of its total revenue, and generated ₹25 crore in revenue with 25% profit margins, projecting to double this figure in the following financial year.[59]

In 2020, Gamezop raised ₹32 crores in a Series A funding round led by BITKRAFT Ventures, further accelerating its growth and expansion.[60] By then, Gamezop was integrated within 2,800 products, reaching over 25 million monthly users. Of the nearly 400 million Indians who played mobile games that year, 272 million engaged with Gamezop due to their model of embedding games in partner apps rather than adopting a B2C distribution approach.[61] The company reported an annual revenue run rate of ₹21 crore (approximately $2.8 million) in 2020, reflecting a 165% year-on-year growth.[62]

In 2021, Gamezop stated that it drove over 650 million minutes of engagement on MX Player through its integrated gaming section, featuring popular titles like Escape Run and Tower Twist as part of a collaboration to enhance user interaction on the OTT platform.[63]

In 2022, Gamezop reported reaching over 40 million monthly active users.[64] In 2023, Gamezop expanded into new content verticals, including Quizzop, Newszop, Astrozop, and Criczop, to further diversify offerings for its partners and increase user engagement via cross-promotion within its products.[65][66]

In recent years, Gamezop reported a significant increase in advertisers, with a 250% growth in the number of brands advertising on the platform. Popular titles like Ludo, Carrom, Rummy, 8 Ball Pool, Chess, Sudoku, Bowling, and Solitaire were highlighted as attracting advertisers due to their broad appeal among users.[67]

By 2023, Gamezop had partnered with over 8,000 apps, including major platforms like Samsung and Times of India, reporting up to 40% higher user engagement on these apps.[68]

Technology

[edit]

Gamezop’s platform is built on HTML5 technology, allowing it to deliver cross-platform compatible games that work across various devices.[69] [70][71][72]This technology is designed to ensure smooth gameplay, even in areas with low bandwidth. Additionally, the company utilizes AWS for scaling its cloud infrastructure to meet user demands. Gamezop partners with various programmatic ad networks to sell its inventory across multiple regions and in various ad formats.

The company has also developed a Javascript SDK that allows HTML5 game developers to integrate their games with Gamezop to expand their distribution on the Gamezop partner network, while ensuring app performance and compatibility across devices.

Funding

[edit]

In 2015, Gamezop raised $350,000 (₹2.3 crore) in seed funding led by Kwan, with participation from Powerhouse Ventures, TracxnLabs, AECAL, and notable angel investors including Anand Chandrasekaran, Rana Daggubati, Phanindra Sama of redBus, and Vinay Menon of JP Morgan.[73][74][75][76]

In 2020, Gamezop raised ₹32 crore in a Series A funding round led by BITKRAFT Ventures, with participation from Velo Partners and FJ Labs. The investment was intended to support the growth of Gamezop's product offerings and help expand its presence in international markets.[77][78][79][80][81]
