Fridgescaping is the art of arranging and decorating the inside of a refrigerator. This is a creative trend that involves arranging food in a way that is both visually appealing and functional.[1]
How to do it
[edit]There are various ways to do this, the simplest is to store and place food in decorated jars or baskets. Porcelain, carved or patterned jars are a great decoration. A picnic basket or beauty container is good idea too.
Today's fridgescapers focus on arranging produce in a mix of stylish wicker baskets, patterned dishes and glass storage. Household essentials, like milk, eggs and butter, get transferred into decorative pitchers, storage trays and antique butter dishes. And beyond creative food storage, fridgescaping might involve fresh flower arrangements and unexpected home decor accessories, like small picture frames, vintage sculptures and ornate trays.[2]
Controversy
[edit]In a recent post shared to the “Am I the A**hole” forum on Reddit, a man explained that his wife recently hopped on the “fridgescaping” trend and has begun to decorate their fridge. From putting flowers in vases to storing their food in “fancy” baskets and jars, her habit of sprucing up their fridge has been getting on his nerves. This makes the arrangement of refrigerator food ingredients no longer efficient, effective and does not take up more space.[3]
History
[edit]Fridgescaping is trending on Instagram and TikTok. The term "fridgescaping" first appeared in a 2011 blog post, although the original blogger's fridge was quieter than the one on social media today.[4]
