Fred Kofman is an economist, executive coach, and advisor specializing in leadership and organizational culture. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley, with a focus on advanced theory and industrial organization.

From 1990 to 1996, Kofman was a professor of management information systems at the MIT Sloan School of Management, where he also served as a senior researcher at the Organizational Learning Center under the direction of Peter Senge, author of The Fifth Discipline.

In 1996, Kofman founded the consulting firm Axialent, where he developed and delivered leadership programs for executives globally.[1] He later established the Conscious Business Center International, an organization aimed at fostering human development through leadership and organizational coaching programs. As of 2024, the organization reportedly has over 33,000 members in its community and operates in 30 countries.[2]

In 2013, Kofman joined LinkedIn as Vice President of Executive Development, where he launched the Conscious Business Academy, a program for professionals worldwide. In 2018, he became Vice President at Google, providing leadership and culture advisory for the office of the CEO. That same year, Kofman collaborated with the Tecnológico de Monterrey to co-found the Conscious Leadership Center, which offers leadership programs for executives and students.[3]

Throughout his career, Kofman has collaborated with numerous global companies, including Google, LinkedIn, Microsoft, Facebook, Axa, Citicorp, Chrysler, General Motors, Heineken, PwC, Telefónica, Vodafone, and Yahoo. He has also worked with notable leaders such as Jeff Weiner (CEO of LinkedIn), Reid Hoffman (founder of LinkedIn), Sheryl Sandberg (former COO of Facebook), Sam Altman (CEO of OpenAI), Satya Nadella (CEO of Microsoft), and Sundar Pichai (CEO of Google).

In 2024, Kofman was recognized as one of the top five business coaches globally by The Information.[4]

Kofman is the author of several books, including Metamanagement (2001), Conscious Business (2008), and The Meaning Revolution: The Power of Transcendent Leadership (2018). Conscious Business has been translated into 14 languages and is available as a free audiobook in Spanish. In her book Lean In, Sheryl Sandberg describes Kofman as someone who "will transform the way you live and work."[5]

Beyond his professional work, Kofman engages in activities such as sailing, freediving, spearfishing, skiing, gliding, and mindful meditation, emphasizing the importance of personal well-being as a foundation for effective leadership.
