The Swiss company Estorel AG operated over 35 drugstores and achieved a market share of five percent with a turnover of 52.4 million CHF. The company was founded by Hans Peter Weber, who had already established the Swiss branch of Toys “R” Us on the market. The main shareholder was the German drugstore chain Ihr Platz, with 80 percent; Hans Peter Weber held the remaining 20 percent. Its competitors were the Sanovit drugstore markets belonging to Manor AG and the drugstore markets belonging to EPA.

The ban on price fixing in 1996 liberalized the drugstore market in Switzerland. Hans Peter Weber took advantage of this to found Estorel in 1997. He raised the necessary funds from the Ihr Platz Group. At the end of 1999, there were six branches that generated 11 million DM in sales. Adjusted for sales area, the turnover in 2000 grew by 15 percent to 40 million DM and the branch network grew to 17 locations. With 230 employees, an increase of 30, a turnover of 41.6 million CHF was achieved in 2001. This represented a 33% increase in sales compared to the year 2000, and a 12.4% increase in like-for-like sales. The cooperation with Globus, which was looking for trading partners for the locations of the Au Bon Marché (ABM) department stores as part of the restructuring process, provided a boost to the expansion of the branch network. In addition to Estorel, corresponding agreements were reached with the clothing retailer Oviesse and the Nannini coffee shop. The 35th store was opened in November 2002. Thus, 13 new branches were opened in 2002 and 67 new jobs were created. A total turnover of 52.4 million CHF was achieved, an increase of 26%, and a like-for-like increase in sales of 10.7%.

Due to economic problems at the parent company Ihr Platz, the expansion strategy came to a halt in 2003. Hans Peter Weber left the company at the end of 2003 and sold his shares to the main shareholder Ihr Platz. On November 1, 2004, Ihr Platz sold Estorel AG, with 19 branches, to Müller Ltd. & Co. KG based in Ulm, Germany. Today, the company trades as Müller Handels AG Schweiz and operates 48 stores.
