Erietta Kourkoulou-Latsi (Greek: Εριέττα Κούρκουλου-Λάτση; born 1993)[1]is a Greek activist and entrepreneur. She is primarily recognized for her advocacy in animal welfare, children's rights, and promoting veganism through her nonprofit initiatives and business ventures.[2]

Early life, family and education

Erietta Kourkoulou-Latsi is the daughter of Marianna Latsis[3][4] and Nikos Kourkoulos[5] and the granddaughter of Greek shipping magnate Ioannis "Yiannis" Latsis and Erietta Tsoukala.[6] She has three brothers, Filippos Kourkoulos Latsis, Paris Kasidokostas and Alkis Kourkoulos, and one sister, Melita Kourkoulou. In 2020, she married Vyron Vasileiadis[7] and in 2022, they had a son named Nikos Vasileidis Kourkoulos.

She studied Sociology at the American College of Greece (Deree), and later earned a master’s degree in Animal Studies from New York University[8] in 2020.

Activism and Career

Kourkoulou-Latsi has been involved in advocacy for ethical treatment of animals, focusing on fostering empathy towards all living beings.[9]

Save a Greek Stray

In 2012, at the age of 15, Kourkoulou-Latsi founded Save a Greek Stray, an organization aimed at addressing the stray animal crisis in Greece.[10] [11] The NGO operates a shelter and veterinary clinic in Oropos, providing care for thousands of animals and implementing sterilization, education, and therapy dog programs.[12] [13] [14] [15]

A Promise to Animals

In 2020, she established A Promise to Animals, an NGO dedicated to raising awareness about the environmental and ethical impacts of livestock farming and advocating for plant-based diets.[16] [17]

The organization conducts researches,[18] and campaigns against animal cruelty.[19] It also hosts events, such as Greece’s first Vegan Medical Conference [20][21] and collaborates on public exhibitions like the photo campaign on animal exploitation displayed in metro stations.[22][23] Last but not least, it organizes various educational events[24][25].

Business interests

In 2022, Kourkoulou-Latsi co-founded Holy Llama, a vegan bakery in Athens. She is also an ethical investor, supporting startups in the vegan food and sustainable tech sectors.[26] [27] In 2022 she became a member of the board of The Greek Cancer Society.[28]

Kourkoulou-Latsi participates in philanthropic activities through several foundations.

Matilda Foundation

As president of the Matilda Foundation since 2019, she has taken initiatives to protect children from abuse and neglect. [29][30] The foundation collaborates with various organizations to implement protective measures for vulnerable children. [31][32]

Kind Things Public Benefit Foundation

In 2023, she founded the Kind Things Public Benefit Foundation, supporting animal welfare, children’s rights, and environmental initiatives while providing assistance to at-risk social groups. [33] [34][35]
