EngineRoom
[edit]EngineRoom is a statistical software package developed by MoreSteam.com, LLC.[1] The software was initially built as an add-in for Microsoft Excel in 2009[2]. It has since evolved into a cloud-based program designed to facilitate data analysis and continuous improvement projects. Because it is a web application, it can run using various operating systems, including Windows and MacOs.
EngineRoom is utilized in areas such as data analysis, statistical process control, project management, quality control, and Lean Six Sigma. The software has four main categories of tools[3]: statistics[4], diagramming[5], process modeling and documentation. It is used by universities[6][7] and across various industries, including healthcare[8], technology, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals[9], and service[10] sectors. EngineRoom utilizes a drag-and-drop interface and interactive data analysis powered by the R programming language[11] for calculations.
History
[edit]EngineRoom was launched in 2009[2] by MoreSteam.com, LLC founder William Hathaway, Caleb Hearon, Smita Skrivanek, Lars Maaseidvaag, James Ralston, and Alan Gao. In 2010, EngineRoom was awarded a patent[12] by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. EngineRoom was initially built to be used within Microsoft Excel.[13] From 2010[14] to 2013, the Excel version of software was enhanced with the addition of templates[15] and Six Sigma tools.[16] Due to installation issues, it was relaunched in 2013 using its own graphical user interface[17] software platform. Since 2013, it has added features specifically designed for continuous improvement and Lean Six Sigma[18] projects, including graphical, statistical, and modeling tools.
EngineRoom is developed and distributed by MoreSteam.com, LLC, a privately owned company headquartered in Powell, Ohio.
Interoperability
[edit]MoreSteam.com, LLC also produces additional software that can be used in conjunction with EngineRoom, such as TRACtion[19], a project management tool designed for continuous improvement projects, and Process Playground, a process modeling software for virtual process mapping. The company also provides e-learning, certification programs and simulations for Lean Six Sigma.
