Comrade Mustapha Salihu (born December 17, 1976) is a Nigerian leader with a background in academia, politics, business, and the military. He holds a PhD, MSc, and BSc. He has served as National Vice Chairman (North-East)[1][2] of the All Progressives Congress (APC) since 2016 and as Deputy Zonal Coordinator for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council in the 2023 Nigerian general elections.

Introduction

Comr. Mustapha Salihu was born in 1976 in Jimeta-Yola North, Adamawa State, Nigeria. He holds multiple degrees including a PhD, LL.B, B.Sc, and B.Ed. His PhD thesis focused on the impact of the Islamic State in West African Province on Nigerian national security. He has served in various capacities, including military service from 1996 to 2007, specializing in counter-terrorism training and internal security operations. He is currently the National Vice-Chairman (North-East)[3] of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Additionally, he is the Chairman/CEO of Barde Brothers Multiservices Limited[4][5]. He has authored publications on terrorism, conflict resolution, and nation-building.

Mustapha Salihu married Hadiza Abdulmumini on December 25, 2009. They have three children.

Professional memberships

Comr. Mustapha Salihu, PhD, is a member of the Institute of Chartered Economists of Nigeria (ICEN), where he holds a Professional Fellowship Doctorate (PFD) and a Fellowship (FCE). He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Executive of Nigeria (FICEN) and the Chartered Institute of Human Capital Development of Nigeria. Additionally, he is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (MCIBN).

Corporate career

Mustapha Salihu has held various positions in the private sector. As Chairman/CEO of Barde Brothers Multiservices Limited[6][7] (2011-present), he led the company's growth in construction and IT services. As Business Development Manager at Mainstreet Bank (2008 - 2015), he oversaw operations in northern Nigeria. He also worked as a Marketing Executive at Sanduff Oil & Gas Company Ltd[8][9]. (Jan 2008 - Nov 2008), focusing on business development, and as a State Coordinator at Anchor Pension Managers Ltd[10]. (May 2007 - Dec 2007), supervising marketing teams and promoting pension schemes in Bauchi State.

Political career

Mustapha Salihu is a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, particularly within the All Progressives Congress (APC). He has held various key positions, including National Vice-Chairman (North-East)[11][12] since March 2022 and Acting National Secretary APC in June 2020. He has also served as Deputy Zonal Coordinator for the APC Presidential Campaign Council[13][14][15] during the 2023 Nigerian general elections and as Secretary of the APC National Campaign Council for the 2020 Ondo state Gubernatorial Election and the Zamfara State 2020 Bye Election[16].

Prior to his current roles, Salihu served as National Vice-Chairman (North-East) APC from 2016 to 2020. He has also been involved in other political activities, including serving as a member of the Edo State Governorship Primaries Appeal Committee in June 2016[17][18], the Presidential Inauguration Sub-Committee in May 2015, and the Adamawa State Coordinator of the Buhari 2015 Support Group Centre in 2015.

Earlier in his political career, Salihu ran for the House of Representatives in 2011 under the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in the Yola North, Yola South, and Girei Federal Constituency.

Military career

Mustapha Salihu served in the Nigerian Army from 1996 to 2007. His expertise lies in counter-terrorism training and internal security operations.

During his military career, he graduated as the Best All-Round Student from the Counter-Terrorist Course 6/97. He went on to serve as an instructor in various capacities, including:

•⁠  Special Warfare Wing: lectured on terrorism, VIP body protection, escort duties, and combat survival from 1999 to 2002.

•⁠  ⁠Training Wing, 3 Brigade Garrison: trained officers and soldiers on basic military tactics and internal security operations, covering crowd dispersal, roadblocks, and Rules of Engagement from 2002 onwards.

He voluntarily discharged in March 2007.
