Lee Chae-ryeong (Korean: 이채령 born June 5, 2001), known mononymously as Chaeryeong, is a South Korean singer and dancer. She is a member of the South Korean girl group Itzy, formed by JYP Entertainment.
Early Life
[edit]Lee Chae-ryeong was born on June 5, 2001,[1] in Yongin, South Korea. She is the younger sister of South Korean singer Chaeyeon.[2] She completed her secondary education at Hanlim Multi Art School, majoring in Musical Theatre, and graduated on February 7, 2020, alongside bandmate Ryujin.[3]
Career
[edit]2013–2015: K-pop Star 3 and Sixteen
[edit]In 2013, Chaeryeong made her first television appearance alongside her elder sister, Chaeyeon, during the third season of K-pop Star at the age of 13.[4] Although both sisters were eliminated from the show, Chaeryeong received praise for her dancing skills.[5] Following their participation, they joined JYP Entertainment as trainees.[6][7]
In 2015, she participated in Mnet's reality survival show Sixteen, which eventually determined the members of the girl group Twice. She was eliminated in the last episode of Sixteen and could not debut.[8][9] She continued to train under JYP. In 2017, she participated in Stray Kids, alongside her future groupmates Yeji, Ryujin, and Yuna.[10]
2019–present: Debut with Itzy
[edit]On February 12, 2019, Chaeryeong officially debuted as a member of Itzy, with the release of their digital single album, It'z Different, led by the single "Dalla Dalla".[11][12] In 2023, she was featured on the track "Doremifasolatido" from Lee Chan-hyuk's album Umbrella.[13] In November, Chaeryeong, alongside bandmate Yeji, was announced as a mentor for the SBS reality survival series Universe Ticket.[14]
On December 25, Chaeryeong released a music video for her solo track "Mine",[15] which was later included in Itzy's Born to Be.[16] The song debuted at number 51 on the Circle Download Chart for the week of January 7–13, 2024.[17]
