Antoine Tayar is a Canadian public official.[1] of Lebanese descent.[2] He was elected as Municipal Councilor in the Town of Mount Royal, Quebec, in the 2021 municipal elections.[3] He is currently the acting mayor of the town.[4] In this role, Tayar oversees local governance, works on policy initiatives, and engages with community stakeholders.[5] His responsibilities include representing the interests of residents, participating in municipal decision-making, considering residents' demands, grievances, and proposals, putting them forward to the city council, and collaborating with provincial authorities to address the town's needs.[6]
Early Life & Education
[edit]Antoine Tayar was born in Lebanon.[7] He obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Public Administration from the American University of Beirut. He completed a Master of Arts in Political Science at St. Joseph University in Lebanon.[8] Additionally, Tayar has over 30 years of experience in leadership, corporate communication, public relations, government relations, reputation and crisis management, sustainable development, and social impact programs[9][10]
Professional Career
[edit]Antoine Tayar is a seasoned professional with extensive international experience working with leading global companies in Canada and around the world, startups, and regional private and semi-public organizations. He is recognized for building trust-based relationships and strategic networks and partnerships. He has over 30 years of experience in public affairs, corporate communications, government relations, public relations, reputation and crisis management, sustainable development, and social impact programs.[11]
He began his career as a Public Relations Manager and Research Associate at the Lebanese Center for Policy Studies (LCPS)[12] in Beirut, an independently managed, non-partisan, non-profit, non-governmental think tank founded in 1989 whose mission is to produce and advocate for policies that improve governance in Lebanon and the Arab region. He worked on seminars and coordinated publications such as The Citizen and Civic Education in Lebanon.[13]
In 1993, he joined Impact BBDO, became Regional Account Director, managed campaigns, and established a public relations department. He also worked on marketing initiatives such as J&B's environmental campaigns.
Tayar first joined The Coca-Cola Company in 2000, taking on roles in public affairs for the Near East.[14] Later, in 2009, he joined Coca-Cola Export Corporation, overseeing twelve countries in Middle East regions based in Dubai. He was in charge of public affairs, sustainability programs, community investments, crisis communications, and corporate communications.[15] In 2015, he relocated to Canada[16] to oversee public affairs and communications and government relations for Quebec and the Atlantic provinces, and was also the Company's spokesperson with the French media.[17]
In 2019, Tayar joined Juul Labs as Provincial Government Relations in Canada, focusing on vaping regulations and representing the company with French-speaking stakeholders and media in Quebec.[18]
Community Involvement
[edit]Antoine Tayar firmly believes in the importance of giving back and is very involved in the communities where he lives. He has participated in various civic and professional organizations locally and internationally. Since 2021, he has served as a city councillor for the Town of Mount Royal.[19] In recognition of his community service and leadership, Tayar was recently awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal in Canada.[20] From 2016 to 2021, he chaired the over-regulation committee of the Fédération des Chambres de Commerce du Québec (FCCQ), focusing on regulatory issues affecting businesses.[21]
Until early 2021, he was a Director on the Board of AMCHAM in Canada and chaired the AMCHAM Quebec Chapter between 2017 and 2019. He took part in many conversations and meetings organized in Quebec during the NAFTA renegotiations in 2018..[22]
Tayar is currently a board member of the Chambre de commerce et d'industrie Canada Liban (CCICL).[23][24] Until early 2021, he was a Director on the Board of the AMCHAM in Canada,[25] having chaired the AMCHAM Quebec[26] Chapter between 2017 and 2019.[27]
He volunteered with the Breakfast Club of Canada[28] from 2017 to 2020 and served as a churchwarden at the Saint-Joseph-de-Mont-Royal parish.[29] He is also a member of the Worldwide Alumni Association of AUB (WAAAUB)[30] Advisory Board.[31] His work also includes projects like Outerpond.com[32] and youth programs like INJAZ AL-ARAB's 'Ripples of Happiness[33],' which teaches social responsibility and financial skills.[34]
