Animal Rescue Cambodia (ARC) is a local charity that aims to create sustainable animal welfare in Cambodia, and end the suffering of Cambodian cats and dogs. The shelter is located in Phnom Penh.

ARC fulfills its mission through spay/neuter and vaccination programs[1], mass vaccination drives (rabies eradication), pre-sheltering and safety net programs (disaster preparedness and emergency response), subsidized vet care and community engagement[2], veterinary education, and providing relevant information as a resources hub.

As of 2023, the non-profit organization has helped more than 40,000 animals and the communities they live in directly and thousands more indirectly.

ARC regularly collaborates with renowned international organizations and leaders in their field, including Mission Rabies, IFAW, and LUSH for funding and technical assistance. Besides, ARC raises donations through

Founded in 2016 by Martina Mayr as a grassroots organization to save strays[3] and officially registered with the Cambodian Ministry of Interior in 2018, ARC is a local NGO.

Milestone achievements include

  • the contribution to the ban of dog meat in Siem Reap province[4] together with the closure of two dog slaughterhouses
  • the largest mass vaccination drive in Cambodian history[5] under the One Health approach whereby 74,872 dogs received life-saving rabies vaccinations in just 10 days
  • the education of more than 63,000 students/teachers on rabies and animal welfare.
