Alban is the principal trainer for Wathnan Racing in Qatar and has overseen some of Wathnan's most memorable victories, including the rousing win of Abbes in the 2023 HH The Amir Sword.[1]
Each year, at the conclusion of the Qatar racing season, Alban returns to his native France with a select string of elite thoroughbred and Purebred Arabian horses to compete in Europe over the spring and summer in the Wathnan Racing silks.
Qatar's most successful trainer, Alban began his career in La Teste, south-west of Bordeaux, having caught the racing bug from his father who was also a trainer. He arrived in Qatar in 1995, where he trained for HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalifa Al Thani, brother to the then emir, Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani. This was his first experience of training Purebred Arabians, and he went on to oversee the racing careers of some of the world's best of this breed. He became the first trainer for Wathan Racing in 2022 following the transfer of Sheikh Abdullah's racing and breeding stock to the emir, HH Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani.
Alban was crowned Champion trainer in both the 2022–23 and 2023–24 seasons while training for Wathnan Racing.
