Aeroflot Flight 608 was a scheduled passenger flight from Irkutsk to Bratsk[1]. On May 4, 1972, the Yak-40 operating the flight was met with heavy wind sheer during approach,[2][3] causing the aircraft to crash, killing all occupants onboard the aircraft.[1][2][4]

This accident is the 22nd worst accident of the Yakovlev Yak-40 and the 46th worst accident in 1972.[1]

Accident

[edit]

During approach, the air traffic control had not been given the current weather report, despite this, the controller told the Yak-40 the previous weather report although the weather had deteriorated. The aircraft while still on approach, had encountered a wet snow storm, the storm caused a downdraft onto the aircraft, causing it to contact the trees and explode, killing everyone onboard.[1][2][3][4]
