Merging articles

[edit]

Someone has obviously gone to a lot of effort to add pages on South African locomotives and rollingstock, but is it really necessary to have separate pages for each series, as well as class? Surely we could merge the articles into a single one for each broad classification, and separate the numbering section into a page of its own, as this seems to be duplicated on every page. I'd clean these pages up myself, but I don't have a copy of any reference materials on South African locomotives that I could cite for sources. Zoqaeski (talk) 12:50, 8 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've already started cleaning up, almost done with all the electrics, the diesel revision next, and then steam. The numbering section is already on a separate page at South African locomotive numbering and classification and removed from the revised articles, together with other duplication items like the plates, the Watson Standard boilers on some steam locos, etc. The series are best kept apart, though, especially with the diesels where different manufacturers produced locomotives in each class and where creating the "Infobox locomotive" would become a big headache. Even worse with steam, especially with the older classes. Give me some time, I'm getting there.... André Kritzinger 16:06, 9 March 2011 (UTC)
