Inclusion of Ecosystem restoration as a subcategory
Current mitigation policy relies mainly on emissions reductions and sequestration. Vegetation is valued for its sequestration capability with the additional benefits of biodiversity acknowledged. However heavily vegetated landscapes are generally cooler than arid landscapes. One reason is the radiant energy used in photosynthesis and the associated heat transfer into the atmosphere through transpiration.
People are engaged in ecosystem regeneration in the poorest communities and are achieving sometimes dramatic results. This work also mitigates the worst current manifesation of climate change, drought, flood and fire. Thus it places climate action within the agency of most people, unlike emissions reductions which depends on the action from those relatively worthy.
