[edit]Certes, Northamerica1000 - Portal:World is in Category:Manually maintained portal pages from December 2021, which doesn't exist. Rather that creating it, I believe AnomieBOT will create it automatically, as well as other future months as needed, but only if this category is named "Manually maintained portal pages" so the "from Month Year" can be appended to make the sub-cats. Is there any reason why this cat does not follow the convention of other by-month categories? MB 00:57, 21 December 2021 (UTC)
- I don't know, but Category:Manually maintained portal pages redirects to Category:All manually maintained portal pages, and Category:All manually maintained portal pages from December 2021 exists, which may be relevant. Certes (talk) 13:30, 21 December 2021 (UTC)
- Certes, I saw the redirect. If this cat were moved to the redirect, then AnomieBOT would have created the correct category (the redlink above) instead of the empty one you linked (which should eventually be deleted). I looked at all the subcats (the in-use monthly cats) and they have been manually created for years. We need to either rename this so the bot can create the cats, or continue creating them manually. - Here is more info: Wikipedia:Creating a dated maintenance category. Instead of renaming this, the current redirect should be the base category. MB 17:39, 22 December 2021 (UTC)
- When this occurs, I just add the parent category to the new red linked page, and then it's a blue link. That's about all I do with this. I find the category itself to be rather useless. North America1000 14:59, 23 December 2021 (UTC)
- A number of detailed categories were created for portal pages tracking in 2019 when editors were selecting portals for deletion. Populating some of them significantly increases the run time of Lua modules. It may be time to reconsider how useful they are. Certes (talk) 15:57, 23 December 2021 (UTC)
