Ali Barakat is a Lebanese singer specializing in anasheeds. He is known as "The Nightingale of Hezbollah".[1][2]
Biography
[edit]Ali Barakat is the son of Mohammed Barakat.[2] The Barakat family are Shia Muslims from Lebanon.
Ali Barakat is known for his many religious and political songs. His songs deal with many subjects. He is known for glorifying Hezbollah and for his tributes to the Syrian regime of Bashar al-Assad.
In April 2014, Ali Barakat was summoned to court for singing anti-Saudi songs, as the Lebanese government had repeatedly expressed concern that his songs would harm relations with Arab countries.[2]
In 2021, Ali Barakat said that he wished to become a suicide bomber and blow himself up among enemy soldiers at the behest of Hizbullah's secretary-general Hassan Nasrallah.[3]
