Revision as of 13:11, 27 February 2024
If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."
If you are here because you want an admin to approve of your new article or your proposed page move, you are in the wrong place.

- To list a technical request: Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:
This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page.
{{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=edit summary for the move}}
the - If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
- If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.
Technical requests
Uncontroversial technical requests
- Sunan Abu Dawood (currently a redirect to Sunan Abi Dawud) → Sunan Abi Dawud (move · discuss) – WP:MOSAR. "Abi Dawud" is fully in line with the 'basic transcription' used throughout Wikipedia for Arabic article titles. What we call 'full transliteration' (which would be "ʾAbī Dāwūd" according to Wikipedia's standards, never "Abi Dawood" or "Abu Dawood") is usually only reserved for the first mention in the lead. It's also WP:COMMONNAME per Google scholars 6,480 results for Sunan Abi Dawud while 741 results for Sunan Abu Dawood), same with JSTOR, Brill, Taylor & Francis and other WPRS, not mentioning all of them here to keep it concise. Rizvi Bullet (talk) 17:33, 26 February 2024 (UTC)
- University of the Philippines Tacloban College (currently a redirect to University of the Philippines Tacloban) → University of the Philippines Tacloban (move · discuss) – New official name (reference: https://up.edu.ph/constituent-universities/) Polo (talk) 03:29, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
- Sherbrooke Fusiliers Regiment (currently a redirect to Sherbrooke Fusilier Regiment) → Sherbrooke Fusilier Regiment (move · discuss) – the plural form was only used briefly. For some reason both forms of name were redirected to a later unit, rather than request a Technical Move GraemeLeggett (talk) 11:00, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
- We should probably dabify Sherbrooke Fusiliers, this is confusing. 162 etc. (talk) 16:58, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
- I have done so.GraemeLeggett (talk) 10:57, 25 February 2024 (UTC)
- Jim Berger (statistician) (currently a redirect to James O. Berger) → Jim Berger (currently a redirect instead to James Berger) (move · discuss) – Only article with title since Jim Berger (singer) was deleted, hatnote can be added for other James Bergers. Sahaib (talk) 15:16, 25 February 2024 (UTC)
- Sources in the article mostly refer to him as James O. Berger, not Jim Berger. 162 etc. (talk) 17:26, 25 February 2024 (UTC)
- I've moved to James O. Berger. I'd suggest not retargeting Jim Berger, as the others can be referred to as Jim too — Amakuru (talk) 09:53, 27 February 2024 (UTC)
- Sources in the article mostly refer to him as James O. Berger, not Jim Berger. 162 etc. (talk) 17:26, 25 February 2024 (UTC)
- Toronto Metropolitan University's Student Learning Centre (currently a redirect to Sheldon & Tracy Levy Student Learning Centre) → Sheldon & Tracy Levy Student Learning Centre (move · discuss) – WP:COMMONNAME. Currently, Sheldon & Tracy Levy Student Learning Centre just redirects to Toronto Metropolitan University, leaving this article orphaned. Specifying ownership of this building to Toronto Metropolitan University in the title seems over-the-top when the actual name is right there. Aknell4 (talk · contribs) 22:44, 26 February 2024 (UTC)
- Frederick Sutermeister (currently a redirect to Friedrich Sutermeister) → Friedrich Sutermeister (move · discuss) – The suggested name is as it appears in the German-language Wikipedia. In no source is it written that Friedrich Sutermeister was ever called ″Frederick Sutermeister″. 194.230.160.86 (talk) 08:21, 27 February 2024 (UTC)
- Travel requirements for Polish citizens (currently a redirect to Visa requirements for Polish citizens) → Visa requirements for Polish citizens (move · discuss) – "Travel requirements for German citizens" and "Travel requirements for French citizens" have been moved to "Visa requirements for German citizens" and "Visa requirements for French citizens" respectively. Moving "Travel requirements for Polish citizens" to "Visa requirements for Polish citizens" as well would make the Wiki more consistent. Other visa requirements articles are named "Visa requirements for ... citizens", see "Visa requirements for United States citizens" for example. Thearones (talk) 09:37, 27 February 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose. It's about more than just visas, it includes public health details too. The French and German ones should be moved back. — Amakuru (talk) 13:11, 27 February 2024 (UTC)
- Coimbatore Bypass Road (currently a redirect to Coimbatore bypass) → Coimbatore Bypass (currently a redirect instead to Coimbatore bypass) (move · discuss) – Bypass Road is a redundant term. All the components of the road are referred to as either 'Coimbatore Bypass, L&T Bypass or Western Bypass, all sans Road in official documents Rsrikanth05 (talk) 11:22, 27 February 2024 (UTC)
Requests to revert undiscussed moves
- Brittany (dog) (currently a redirect to Brittany Spaniel) → Brittany dog (currently a redirect instead to Brittany Spaniel) (move · discuss) – In accordance with consensus and in line with other articles the article was previously moved to dog without parentheses, someone who has had their username removed reverted it in 2019 and I'm unable to move it now due to the redirect existing Traumnovelle (talk) 19:10, 25 February 2024 (UTC)
- The move was almost five years ago, and I think the current name is fine. The name of the breed is simply "Brittany", not "Brittany dog", and it matches other pages such as Feist (dog). — Amakuru (talk) 16:01, 26 February 2024 (UTC)
- Smokey (University of Tennessee) (currently a redirect to Smokey (mascot)) → Smokey (mascot) (move · discuss) – Undiscussed move, old was redirected to a section of a disamg page. There is not another mascot named "Smokey". glman (talk) 02:03, 27 February 2024 (UTC) glman (talk) 02:03, 27 February 2024 (UTC)
Contested technical requests
- Adjarabet Arena → Batumi Stadium (currently a redirect back to Adjarabet Arena) (move · discuss) – Per WP:COMMONNAME, move from temporary sponsored name Abcmaxx (talk) 08:36, 21 February 2024 (UTC)
- Citation needed. 162 etc. (talk) 18:56, 21 February 2024 (UTC)
- Tabal → Tabal (state) (move · discuss) – "Tabal" was the name of both a region and a state, and the page on the state needs to be renamed to avoid confusion. Antiquistik (talk) 18:53, 19 February 2024 (UTC)
- What's the name of the page for the region? Bensci54 (talk) 19:56, 19 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Bensci54: The name for the page for the region is Tabal (region). Antiquistik (talk) 18:29, 20 February 2024 (UTC)
- Tabal (region) is just a redirect to Tabal. — BarrelProof (talk) 19:51, 20 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Bensci54 and BarrelProof: another user created the redirect. However, I need the present content of Tabal to be moved to Tabal (state) before I can rewrite both pages so there won't be any confusion between the region and the state. Antiquistik (talk) 20:07, 20 February 2024 (UTC)
- It would probably be best to first establish a consensus for your proposed WP:content fork in a discussion before preemptively renaming the current article, or to develop a second article in the Wikipedia WP:Draft space. Also, the existence of two articles can often be sufficiently addressed by a WP:TWODABS approach without needing to add a disambiguation qualifier to both titles. — BarrelProof (talk) 20:20, 20 February 2024 (UTC)
- @BarrelProof: is WP:content fork really the appropriate channel for this when Tabal the region and Tabal the state are different topics whose main relation consists of the state being located in the region without being identical to each other? Antiquistik (talk) 10:49, 22 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Antiquistik: I have a suggestion: you may have more luck getting Tabal moved after creating the Tabal (region) article. You can just edit the redirect, if you want. Bensci54 (talk) 14:57, 25 February 2024 (UTC)

- Kaminski Brigade (currently a redirect to Russian People's Liberation Army) → SS Sturmbrigade RONA (currently a redirect instead to Russian People's Liberation Army) (move · discuss) – The article was moved without discussion from a name previously approved through a RM discussion. "Kaminski Brigade" does not appear to even be used in the current article's lead. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 09:45, 21 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Piotrus: Please start an WP:RM per WP:TITLECHANGES it has been at this this title for almost three years. Lightoil (talk) 04:45, 22 February 2024 (UTC)
- 2022 Guamanian gubernatorial election → 2022 Guam gubernatorial election (currently a redirect back to 2022 Guamanian gubernatorial election) (move · discuss) – in most/all US election pages the name of the state/territory is used rather than an adjective e.g. Illinois but not Illinoisan Nevermore27 (talk) 17:01, 22 February 2024 (UTC)
- The current name is consistent with all other Guam election articles. Bensci54 (talk) 17:26, 22 February 2024 (UTC)
- Ergonomics → Human Factors (currently a redirect back to Ergonomics) (move · discuss) – Ergonomics and Human Factors are not interchangeable terms in the US. Internationally they are sometimes used interchangeably in conversation but not when being applied. Ergonomics primarily addresses the body's interactions with the environment, whereas Human Factors addresses the mind's interactions. The distinction is important, so as not confuse those looking to learn more about each field. HFanatic (talk) 15:27, 23 February 2024 (UTC)
- This was moved to its currently location on an RM only a month ago. A move will require an RM. Bensci54 (talk) 17:33, 23 February 2024 (UTC)
- If you're looking to make an article for Ergonomics and another for Human factors, as you say they are not the same, then WP:SPLIT is the procedure, not WP:RMT. 162 etc. (talk) 22:48, 23 February 2024 (UTC)
- Draft:National anti corruption commission investigations is invalid. Must create Draft:National anti corruption commission investigations before requesting that it be moved to National Anti-Corruption Commission (Australia) Investigations.– make not draft User2049 (talk) 13:04, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
- Askari Amusement Park (currently a redirect to Kashmir Park) → Kashmir Park (move · discuss) – Revert sock move War Wounded (talk) 09:45, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
- The current title seems to be the stable one here. The sock actually reverted a different undiscussed move. Bensci54 (talk) 23:52, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
- The move to 'Kashmir Park' was indeed correct. In 2022, amusement park and commercial activities ceased on a court order, and later it was renamed and turned into a public park by local authorities.[1][2] War Wounded (talk) 18:21, 26 February 2024 (UTC)
- The current title seems to be the stable one here. The sock actually reverted a different undiscussed move. Bensci54 (talk) 23:52, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
- NVDES (currently a redirect to Nvdes) → Nvdes (move · discuss) – MOS:ALLCAPS 162 etc. (talk) 04:53, 26 February 2024 (UTC)
- The vast majority of sources that I can see render this as NVDES. While it would be sensible to make this move if it were a mixed bag, I don't think this is a case where it would be useful to readers to move this. — Amakuru (talk) 09:36, 27 February 2024 (UTC)
