Saturn Devouring His Son is a name given to one of around 14 works by Francisco Goya which comprise his so called "Black Paintings" series. Each was created when Goya was in his latter years and seemingly preoccupied both by fears for his own mental stability and a general loss of faith in the direction of contemporary Spanish society.

  • Comment Obviously FP material but I'm not keen on the caption. Its one of his many untitled works (this might give the impression that it his only untitled work), the exact measurements aren't really important as they probably aren't the original dimensions, and "towards his death" seems odd, especially as he later moved to France and continued painting; he lived for at least 5 years after completing the Black Paintings.
