Template

[edit]

Hi there. To save you having to make continuous edits like this can I make you a template which will automatically show the relevant links? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 15:47, 26 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi MSGJ, No Thank you. As background, the meet-up pages are created collaboratively. Finalization of the number and names of the pages are usually decided over the course of 10 days. For example, this month, while we had originally planned for a Stage + Screen, we are rescheduling it after we couldn't quite get the interest needed to move it forward. Each month from the 20th-30th is a stop and start process giving different time time-zones and editors a chance to participate. Best, --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 02:01, 27 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, just trying to make your life easier. Just let me know if there is anything you need. By the way, I have updated the instructions for adding a new event to the project banner at Template:WikiProject Women in Red/doc, for whenever you get round to creating the next one. I can assist if needed, but hopefully will be straightforward. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 09:51, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi MSGJ, Thanks for the ping. I will work with the new instructions for the March meetups. BTW, I really like the clickable, sort-able table at the top of the year category pages! It is such a nice visual display of quantitative information. I'd like to note it on our general WiR talk page, unless you would rather I didn't or are still working on it, or if I somehow missed it. Please ping to let me know. Thanks. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 21:32, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No that's fine, go ahead. I've just about finished working on all this now. I don't know if you noticed my attempt to categorise by series too, e.g. Category:WikiProject Women in Red Alphabet run articles — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 21:44, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
MSGJ - no I hadn't. Very cool. Thanks.--WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 21:50, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Just as an example of what can be done, {{#invoke:Women in Red event/sandbox|current_events|298}} produces:

Recently completed: Women in Sports Indigenous women Film and stage
September 2024: Women writers & their works Geofocus: Islands A - H
Ongoing initiatives: #1day1woman Education Translation
Upcoming events: Ideas

(Basically lists the current events in the month and year of that event.) This will automatically update when more events are added — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 22:54, 13 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi MSGJ, Thanks for the ping. I can see that it all looks the same, but I still think that because the collaborative nature of the monthly page creation and announcements is not suited to an automated process. We like to have all the pages ready for the invitation several days ahead of that announcement, and then we do not update several pages until the first day of the month. I can't speak for the group, but my experience has been that we want things to be as close to perfect as possible as each page gets closer to being considered "final". We also ditch some ideas after the page is made. I do believe the possibility for confusion overrides the economy of editing time. Thanks again. Best, --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 20:53, 14 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Photo of Walter Mears.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free file from a commercial source (e.g. Associated Press, Getty Images), where the file itself is not the subject of sourced commentary. If you can explain why the file can be used under the non-free content guidelines, please add the appropriate non-free use tag and rationale.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Help with template for Electronic literature women writers

[edit]

Hello! You very kindly offered to make a template for Wikipedia:WikiProject Women writers/Women electronic literature writers a while ago but nobody came up with an image. I figured out how to make a template (I think) and just used an icon of a screen for lack of anything better, but I am not sure whether I did it right and would appreciate it if you could take a look! Since last time @LoveElectronicLiterature, the initiator of the task force, and the rest of us have established WP:WikiProject Electronic literature so the idea is that Wikipedia: WikiProject Women writers/Women electronic literature writers will be a taskforce of Wikipedia: WikiProject Electronic literature. So I tried making the template for Electronic literature with a women=yes that notifies the women writers. This seems to populate categories OK but I can't figure out how to make the article alerts and so on like the cool projects have! My idea was that we could put a list of recent articles on the project page (both Electronic literature in general and Women electronic literature writers in particular). Could you help point me in the right direction, and check whether I made any mistakes in the template? Thanks!!! Lijil (talk) 07:31, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Lijil, I have read over your request and am sorry to say I think I do not have the skills to facilitate what you are asking. It sounds like you want the template to generate data for a Wikiproject. I don't know how to do that. Also, I don't understand how you have established WP:Wikiproject Electronic Literature if it is a redlink. Sorry I can't help, but it is beyond my skills, or I don't understand the request. Best, --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 21:38, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Oops, I had the capital letters in the wrong place, so the WikiProjects showed up red, sorry about that. My request is probably confusing because I don't quite know how things work so what to ask for. I guess my basic request is if you would mind looking at the template I set up here: Template:WikiProject Electronic literature to see if it looks right. No worries if that's not your area of expertise :) Lijil (talk) 08:47, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question

[edit]

Hi. Since I'm not completely familiar with the enwiki community and the processes on the project, I thought I could write to you for help. I saw the Julia Dolgorukova article on the "top thousand missing English articles about women" list and created the article. Later, I saw that a template placed by a bot on the article's talk page indicated that the article had previously been deleted after discussion, and after reviewing the comments in the discussion and conducting a deeper investigation, I concluded that the article is not notable. Since I am not familiar with the previous version, I am unsure how appropriate it is to request its speedy deletion with G4. How can I request the deletion of the article? Sura Shukurlu (talk) 10:08, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sura Shukurlu, As the current version of Julia Dolgorukova is a page you created, you can tag it {{db-author}} at the top. See Wikipedia:How to delete a page. There are a couple of other editors who have contributed to the page, but I would try that first. Happy editing! Best, --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 00:28, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Could you have a look at this and see what you think?

[edit]

Hello! Hope all is going well for you in your world. I've been mulling over a promotional autobiography of the photographer James H. Evans wondering if I should stubbify it or send to AfD. Most all of the sourcing points to Texas Monthy magazine where he is employed as a staff photographer (and the magazine periodically publishes "articles" about his work and projects. The work itself is quite beautiful, and I found one verifiable collection: the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.[1]. What do you think, prune it to a short stub, or AfD/TNT? Netherzone (talk) 12:50, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Netherzone! I think prune it to a short stub something like:

James H. Evans (born 1954)[1] is an American photographer. His work has appeared in Texas Monthly Magazine.[2] He has had two books published by the University of Texas Press; Big Bend Pictures (2003)[3] and Crazy from the Heat: A Chronicle of Twenty Years in the Big Bend (2013)[4] His work is in the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.[5]

(Hat tip to Possibly's stub template)

I'm not finding any RS on the biographical information. What think you? --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 00:27, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The lack of RS on bio info and the fact that he does not yet meet NARTIST unless there are a couple more solid collections. I'll trim it to a Possibly stub for now.
Hi Netherzone, I think he can be considered a notable Texas photographer with the MFAH citation. How did you find that reference? a simple Google search didn't turn it up for me. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 00:45, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think I did an image search with his name + museum + collection. I just cleaned it up, the suggestion to turn it into a stub worked well. And from the Foley Gallery bio, I saw there were other collections, so I Googled those and added the ones where I could verify he was in their collections. He meets NARTIST. Thanks again for your suggestion! Netherzone (talk) 01:16, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you have a time time in the next week or so, could you also have a look at Dani Brubaker - insufficient sourcing, and I can't seem to find much about her in RS online other than stuff in blogs, social media or about the two houses she lived in. It was created directly in article space (not thru AfC) yesterday; I thought I'd give it a little time to incubate. Or do you think it should get draftified? AfD? Netherzone (talk) 00:40, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'll try to take a look in the next couple of days. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 00:45, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Netherzone, I'll do the source table on this one. Sheesh. I was just typing up a response to you when I saw it was up for deletion. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 22:37, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I did not mean to make more work for you! It seemed non-notable, when I viewed it at NPP. Netherzone (talk) 22:42, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Netherzone No worries. I am actually get more proficient at creating the source tables. By far the most persuasive argument for deletion, so I should use them more often. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 22:53, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
