Yubo Ruan (Chinese: 阮宇博[5]), born in Beijing in 1996, is a tech entrepreneur[6] and venture capitalist.[7] He is the founder and CEO of 8 Decimal Capital,[8][9] a venture capital investment firm focusing on early stage fintech,[10] and Parallel Finance, a decentralized finance (DeFi) platform on multiple blockchains valued at $500 million.[11][12]
Early life
[edit]In high school, Ruan started his first company Alisimba Technologies in Beijing, China while winning 13 invention awards and five patents. Alisimba was acquired by TopHacker Consulting Group in 2015.[12] Yubo continued his studies at the Education as Stanford University, specializing in computer science. Inspired by personal experiences, he also developed a robot to assist his grandfather with Parkinson’s disease, winning an award at the China Robotics Competition.[13] In college, he set up his first venture capital fund Skylight Investment to invest in disruptive technologies.[11]
Career
[edit]From 2008 to 2012,[14] Ruan developed[15] and upgraded the smart piggy bank system.[16]
In 2017, he served as the co-founder of Skylight Investment, backed by New Oriental (NYSE: EDU) and Taiyou Fund.[6]
In 2017, he launched his second VC fund 8 Decimal Capital with an AUM of over $60 million.[17][18]
In 2021, he founded Parallel Finance, after dropping out of Stanford a DeFi platform on Polkadot and Ethereum, valued at $500 million and backed by investors like Sequoia, Founders Fund, Coinbase Ventures, Polychain, and Pantera.[19]
