Yassıca (Kurdish: Ermune; Syriac: Armun)[2][nb 1] is a village in the Gercüş District of Batman Province in Turkey.[4] The village is populated by Kurds of the Kercoz tribe and had a population of 71 in 2021.[1][5] It is located in the historic region of Tur Abdin.[6]
History
[edit]Armun (today called Yassıca) was historically inhabited by Syriac Orthodox Assyrians.[7] In 1914, the village was populated by 200 Assyrians, according to the list presented to the Paris Peace Conference by the Assyro-Chaldean delegation.[8] It was located in the kaza of Midyat.[8] There were ten Assyrian families in 1915.[9] Amidst the Sayfo, the village was attacked by Turkish soldiers and some Kurdish tribesmen, leaving only ten Assyrian survivors.[2] By 1987, there were no remaining Assyrians.[9]
