Wofai Samuel /wəʊfaɪə/ ⓘ is a Nigerian communications executive and acting director-general of the Nigerian-American Chamber of Commerce.[2][3]
Early life and education
[edit]Samuel was born in Calabar, Cross River State,[4] where she attended the Federal Government Girls College and the University of Calabar in 2012 where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in zoology and environmental biology.[5]
Career
[edit]In 2021, Samuel was director of communication and external affairs to the UK-Liberia Chamber of Commerce.[6][7]
In August 2022, she joined the Nigerian-American Chamber of Commerce as director of communication, government relations and advocacy,[8] and later became acting director-general.[9]
In May 2023, she was part of a delegation from the Nigerian-American Chamber of Commerce who took part in meetings in the United States to diversify Nigerian-American trade goals. She toured the White House and the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C., the Maryland State House and the State of Virginia.[10]
In March 2024, Samuel implemented an inbound trade mission[11] to Nigeria for the Government of Illinois,[12] Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and was subsequently interviewed on Voice of America (Africa)[13][3] and Center for International Private Enterprise in Washington DC.[14]
Samuel is a member the World Agriculture Forum Council,[15] member of the Advisory Boards of Cetacea Online University,[16] an unaccredited university in Delaware, and the American Council on Management and Information Technology.[17]
Public speaking
[edit]Samuel has chaired several summits and conferences. In 2017, she was invited to chair the Belarus-Africa Summit in Minsk.[18] In 2018, she was invited to chair the sub-Saharan Africa oil, energy and infrastructure summit in Nairobi,[19] African-Export Import Bank's launch of Project Preparation facility in Johannesburg in 2018[20] and the West Africa Trade and Investment Conference.[21]
She has been featured on subjects of national[22][23] and international interest.[24][25]
Non-governmental engagements
[edit]On 24 December 2020,[26] Samuel was elected for a one-year term as the fourth communications chair for the Young African Leaders Initiative, YALI RLC West Africa (Nigeria Alumni). She was then sworn in as publicity secretary[27] for the United States Government Exchange Alumni Association on 1 October 2021 and served until March 2024. Samuel moderated the YALI RLC West Africa Homecoming Conference in Lomé, Togo in December 2022[28] and in Accra, Ghana in 2023.[29]
In March 2024, Samuel was invited to the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)'s YALI Legacy Localization Design Charette in Kigali, Rwanda,[30] and was subsequently chosen to represent West Africa alumni on the YALI LL roadmap advisory group.
In November 2024, she was invited to USAID's YALI EXPO & Trade Show in Cape Town, South Africa.[31]
She is a member of ForbesBLK - a global community for Black professionals, and a member of ACE Global Leaders of Excellence Network.
