Willemijn Aerdts
Willemijn J.M. Aerdts (born 21 April 1983) is a Dutch politician and scientist who has been a member of the Senate on behalf of Democrats 66 since 13 June 2023. She is also a lecturer and researcher at the Institute of Security and Global Affairs at the Campus The Hague of Leiden University.
Career
[edit]Scientific career
[edit]Aerdts obtained her master's degree in International Relations in Historical Perspective from Utrecht University and subsequently obtained an LLM in International Public Law.[1] At Leiden University she worked on her PhD on the supervision of the Dutch Military Intelligence and Security Serviceand the AIVD.[2] In May 2023, her book Diensten met geheimen was published.[3]
Politics
[edit]Between 2021 and 2023, Aerdts was the chair of the Els Borst network of D66.[4]
She was subsequently in second place on the D66 candidate list for the 2023 Senate elections.[5] After being elected in the 2023 Dutch Senate election, she has been a member of the Senate since 13 June 2023.[6]
