Proposal that this article be merged into Wikipedia:Glossary
See Wikipedia talk:Glossary#Merger proposal travb (talk) 21:30, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
Title
I don't think it's helpful to have this titled Alphabet soup. Deliberately using "in" lingo makes Wikipedia less accessible to new editors. It's an issue for those editors from any culture, especially for those from other cultures who may speak English perfectly well but be unfamiliar with goofy idioms. But it's not just an issue of understanding--it sets an exclusive tone. Ccrrccrr (talk) 12:50, 8 October 2009 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Alphabet soup → Wikipedia:Wikipedia Abbreviations — Using "in" lingo instead of plain language makes Wikipedia less accessible to new editors. Ccrrccrr (talk) 02:48, 10 March 2010 (UTC)
- See my comment in the above section that got no replies. Ccrrccrr (talk) 02:48, 10 March 2010 (UTC)
- One more note: it might seem redundant to have "Wikipedia" twice in the name. The reason is that this is not a page of instructions about using abbreviations in articles. Rather it is abbreviations that are used in wikipedia referring to wikipedia. But I welcome other suggestions.Ccrrccrr (talk) 02:54, 10 March 2010 (UTC)

OP?
I have often seen people refer to "the OP" in discussion. I came here hoping to find out what it means. Can someone who knows, please add it to the article? Thanks. --MelanieN (talk) 17:14, 27 April 2013 (UTC)
- The Original poster. It's a common abbreviation used on forums and message boards, not specific to Wikipedia. Reatlas (talk) 07:59, 28 April 2013 (UTC)
