Identify fair use images?

[edit]

How exactly can I identify a fair use image? I went through the images in Wikipedia:Userboxes/Other (Just "Other" in the table); many of them say GNU, which I gather means we can use them in userboxes, but others have other tags. Help, please. --Fang Aili 22:38, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well anyway, I get the feeling no one's really paying attention to the Userbox project anymore. But regarding my confusion with the images, I've gone through a few categories, and if a picture said "fair use" then I deleted it from the userbox. Ones that were questionable, or said that they'd be deleted unless source info was found, I also deleted. --Fang Aili 00:38, 14 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

All userboxes checked

[edit]

Back in April/May/June of 2006 I went through every userbox then in existence for fair use image violations. I removed any that I found. I found the hit rate of violations to be about 2.5% of all userboxes. I recently did a review of just all boxes starting with Template:User A* and found 1.3% had fair use image violations, that after just a couple of months since the last check of that letter. In short, removing fair use images from userboxes by hand is not working. --Durin 19:34, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
