Puzzling out SR 711/712:
1935 cross-reference of old and new street names in Arlington
1929-06 p. 135, 1930-12 p. 9, 1931-10 p. 7, 1932-07 p. 5, and others indicate that SR 711 followed Wilson Boulevard and Garrison Road/Memorial Drive (Washington Boulevard) through Clarendon and Ballston. But 1931-10 p. 10 refers to SR 712 on Brown Street in Falls Church, and Falls Church once extended into Arlington County, so this may have been Washington Boulevard (formerly Brown Avenue). 1932-07 03 p. 4 refers to SR 712 at the intersection of Washington Avenue and Chestnut Street - is this the current US 50/SR 27 interchange? However, references in 1933 clearly put SR 711 on Lee Boulevard (now Arlington Boulevard).
There's also a reference on 1931-12 p. 5 to a temporary extension of SR 711 for 500-600 feet to Washington Avenue. This was probably from the dead end shown on the 1936 official to current SR 27, and has nothing to do with approved mileage.
711 5.7 Arlington, 1 Fairfax (1928) - this may have been enough for a more direct route closer to the cemetery .7 Arlington (1930)
712 2.3 Arlington (1928) 1.6 Arlington (1930) .23 Arlington (1938)
mileage in Fairfax, 1938: 2.18 Falls Church-east (711)
eventual mileage in Arlington: 5.0 US 50 (711) 4.2 SR 237 (712)
This adds up pretty reasonably if you ignore the county line. There's nowhere near enough for how 1930s maps show SR 237 going into Rosslyn via Wilson Boulevard.
